AL GREEN WINS 1ST SPORT SHOT TITLE

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow and ran its 7th Sport Shot Series event of Season 16. Al Green, Westbury, NY, a right-handed senior bowler who joined the LIGBT in 2013, won his first LIGBT title by defeating 7-time champion Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY 289-283. Al earned $1,000 while Joe earned $600 for second place. Finishing in third was Joe Hoenig, Levittown, NY shooting a 225 and earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY with a 206 worth $300.

The final shootout wound up being a 2-person match between Al and Joe LaBargo. Joe was giving Al 50 pins in handicap but that huge deficit was cut to 6-pins by the 8th frame with Joe throwing 7 strikes in his first 8 frames. Al was not intimidated by Joe and threw 3-strikes in a row in his last 3 frames to hold back Joe’s incredible charge. Donna and Joe Hoenig had their own fight for 2nd place with Joe coming out on top when Donna opened in her last 2 out of 3 frames.  

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 130 entries, paid out $6,275 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $6,215 bringing the total event payout to $12,490.  

Scores to cash on the 35 foot “PBA Cheetah” pattern were 658 at 1pm and 668 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Isaiah Zamor with a 1,352. High series of the day was shot by our champion Al Green with an 808 in the 2nd squad.

JOSE PEREZ IS EASTER HOUSE SHOT SPECTACULAR CHAMPION!

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for its 2nd House Shot Spectacular. What was really spectacular was Jose Perez’s performance in the final shootout. Jose, who resides in E. Elmhurst, NY dominated the final shootout by defeating 2nd place finisher Shawn Cummings, Middle Village, NY 278 (scratch)-243 (handicap.) Jose’s 28 pin victory earned him the $1,500 top prize while Shawn took home $800.

The 5-person final shootout was an exciting competition. Jose, the winner of the scratch division was giving everyone handicap. But that didn’t bother him as he struck in 9 out of his 10 frames. Finishing in 3rd place was Anthony Brown, Dix Hills, NY with a 241 worth $500. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Noel Dilbert, Huntington St., NY with a 230 worth $350 and 5th was taken by Jose Torres, Brooklyn, NY with a 191 worth $300.

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular held over Easter weekend drew 176 entries generating an $8,320 prize fund. Strike 10 Deer Park and Coaches Corner added $1,000 to the prize fund. A total of 45 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,790 bringing the total event payout to $12,110. Angel Villavicencio, Whitestone, NY won the bowling ball raffle.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 648-713. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 689 to 727. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 693-731. There were 2 perfect games bowled; Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY and James Manganaro, Deer Park, NY. The wildcard winners were Jimmy Walsh, Glen Cove, NY (1,410), Ken Bruce, Oceanside, NY (1,420), Stacey Pflug, W. Babylon, NY, (1,391) and Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY (1,398.)

ARCHIE NABAS WINS HIS 6TH LIGBT TITLE

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF Garden City and ran its sixth sport shot series event of Season 16. Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY won his 6th LIGBT title by defeating Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY 238-234. Archie earned $1,000 while Joe took home $700 for second place. Finishing in third was Gary Paulsen, Massapequa, NY shooting a 217 and earning $500. Rounding out the top 4 was 4th place finisher Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY with a 192 worth $300.

The shootout was competitive on the “Broadway” pattern with the first open frame occurring in the 4th frame. Archie started strong with the first 5 out of 6 strikes and was cruising to victory until he had 2 consecutive opens in frames 8 & 9. Joe LaBargo was filling frames but trailed Archie by 45 pins in the 7th frame. Joe’s 4 late strikes made the final score close but he had to settle for 2nd place. Gary struggled the entire match but his large handicap kept him close. Joe Scianna, who gets no handicap, couldn’t string strikes until he changed his line in the 10th frame where he struck out. 

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an unbelievable crowd of 151 entries, paid out $7,365 in prize money, and had 40 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $8,920 bringing the total event payout to $16,285.  A record for an LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament.

Scores to cash on the 37 foot “Broadway” pattern were 684 at 1pm and 689 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY with a 1,398. The women guarantee added Karen Carpinelli, Bayshore, NY to the finals with a 706. High series of the day was shot by Gary Paulsen with a 789 in the 1st squad.

DIAMOND BARRIENTOS WINS HANDICAP TITLE DONNA RYAN TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT ran its House Shot Series #6 at Levittown Lanes on Sunday and crowned 2 great champions. The handicap champion, earning her first title, was Diamond Barrientos, Bronx, NY and the scratch champion, winning her second scratch title, was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY. This is the first time in LIGBT history both champions were women. Even more amazing another woman came in 2nd place in the handicap shootout; Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY. WOMEN RULED AT LEVITTOWN!

Diamond, bowling in her first LIGBT event, earned the $1,000 top prize in the handicap shootout in dominating fashion. Diamond shot a 271 game, 42 pins higher than 2nd place finisher Stephanie Pidala who shot 229 and earned $600. Finishing in third place with a 227 was 76-year-old Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 in the handicap shootout was Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY with a 205 worth $300

The scratch event was won by Donna Ryan with a 4-game total of 922 worth $525. Finishing in 2nd place, just 10 pins behind with a 912, was first-time-bowler Justin Lee, E. Setauket, NY earning $300. Rounding out the top 3 in the scratch event was Don Pendleton, Staten Island, NY with a 902 earning him $200. The scratch event drew 25 entries and paid out a 6-person prize list totaling $1,475.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #6 drew a field of 126 entries, paid out $7,545 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $5,530 bringing the total day’s payout to $13,075. Scores to cash were 930 in the 49 & under handicap division, 945 in the senior handicap division, and 881 in the scratch event.

SEAN TEAHAN’S 14 YEAR WAIT IS OVER! WINS E. MEADOW HOUSE SHOT SPECIAL EVENT

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow and ran a special 2-squad house shot event. Sean Teahan, Islip, NY won his first LIGBT title since joining the LIGBT in 2010 by defeating Charlie Fucci, Central Islip, NY 264-228. Sean earned $1,000 while Charlie earned $600 for second place. Finishing in third place was Phil Jankowitz, Plainview, NY shooting a 217 and earning $400. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY with a 213 worth $350 and 5th place finisher Angel Villavencio, Whitestone, NY with a 201 worth $300.

The final shootout was a great match as 4 of the 5 bowlers were looking for their first LIGBT title. Sean bowled like a champion the entire game as he was the only final shootout bowler to throw a clean game. Sean took the early lead with a double in frames 3 & 4 and locked up the title by throwing 5 strikes in his 6 last frames. By the end of the match the battle was for 2nd place with Charlie finishing with 5 strikes in a row to go from 4th to 2nd place. Phil bowled well but when he missed a 1-pin spare in the 10th frame he had to settle for 3rd place. Jason threw plenty of strikes but 2 splits cost him a chance at the title. Angel, who is 79-years young, seemed tired and managed only 1 strike to finish in 5th place. 

The LIGBT 2-squad house shot tournament drew a crowd of 116 entries, paid out $5,725 in prize money, and had 29 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,545 bringing the total event payout to $10,270.  

Scores to cash on the house shot pattern were 706 at 1pm and 689 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Don Boncoeur, St. Albans, NY with a 1,422. High series of the day was shot by 2nd place finisher Charlie Fucci with a 764 in the 1pm squad. Leon Kessee, Hempstead, NY shot the only perfect game of the tournament in the 1pm squad.

PAULO MARTINS WINS HANDICAP TITLE DONNA RYAN TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran its House Shot Series #5 at AMF Garden City on Sunday and crowned 2 great champions. The handicap champion, earning his second title, was 75-year-old Paulo Martins, New York, NY)  and the scratch champion, winning her first singles title, was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY.  This was LIGBT’s first female scratch champion.

In the final handicap shootout Paulo started with the lead, since he got the most handicap, and never looked back. He bowled a clean game, including 2 sets of doubles, and finished with a 260 worth $1,000. Finishing in 2nd place with a 224 was new comer Maseyo Oliver, Freeport, NY earning $600. Finishing in third place with a 203 was Donna Ryan, Smithtown NY earning $450. Rounding out the top 4 was Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY with a 181 worth $350

The scratch event was won by Donna Ryan in dominant fashion as she cruised to a 77-pin victory with a 4-game total of 1,015 worth $500. There was a tie for 2nd place with a pair of 938’s shot by Curtis Hetmeyer, and Eric Taylor Jr., both from Brooklyn, NY, each earning $250. The scratch event drew 24 entries and paid out a 6-person prize list totaling $1,450.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #5 drew a field of 122 entries, paid out $7,810 in prize money, and had 30 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,105 bringing the total day’s payout to $11,915. Scores to cash were 942 in the 49 & under handicap division, 937 in the senior handicap division, and 916 in the scratch event.

JOE SCIANNA WINS $2,300 AT HOUSE SHOT SPECTACULAR!

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for its House Shot Spectacular. What was really spectacular was Joe Scianna’s performance. Joe advanced to the final shootout in both the scratch and senior handicap divisions. His 226 in the final shootout was good enough to take both first and second place worth a total of $2,300.

Joe started his quest to the title by shooting an 810-scratch series in the Friday 10pm squad to earn the Friday night bye in both scratch and senior handicap divisions. In the final shootout Joe’s 226 was 13 pins better than 3rd place finisher Chris Russo, New York, NY who shot a 213 and earned $600. Just 1 pin behind in 4th place was Mack Oakman, Melville, NY with a 212 worth $500. Rounding out the top 5 was Eric Stoneburner, W. Islip, NY with a 197 earning $400.

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular was a big success with 230 entries generating a $10,835 prize fund. Strike 10 Deer Park and Coaches Corner added $1,000 to the prize fund. A total of 61 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $6,830 bringing the total event payout to $17,665.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 663-678. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 639 to 714. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 671-723. Bowlers shooting the high series of the day, which earned them a bye, were Friday: Joe Scianna (810) scratch and senior handicap and Dominick Steed, Farmingdale, NY (776.) The Sunday bye winners were Chris Russo (898), Denis Mendelson, Levittown, NY (784) and Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY (766)

CHARLIE REMBERT BACK IN THE WINNER’S CIRCLE WINS EAST MEADOW SPORT SHOT EVENT

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow and ran its fourth sport shot series event of Season 16. Charlie Rembert, Floral Park, NY won his 3rd LIGBT title by defeating senior bowler William Tudy, Brooklyn, NY 227-215. Charlie earned $1,000 while William earned $600 for second place. Finishing in third place was Kyle Lathen, Bronx, NY shooting a 211 and earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was 4th place finisher Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY with a 198 worth $300.

The final shootout was a real challenge on the Autobahn pattern. There were 15 open frames out of the 40 bowled. Charlie jumped to the early lead with William staying close. When Eddie doubled in the 7th & 8th frames, and Charlie opened twice, Ed jumped from 4th to 1st. But Charlie came back with a double in the final 2 frames to grab back the lead and earn the title. William bowled great but struck only once. Kyle had to wait until his final frame to get his first strike.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an unbelievable crowd of 150 entries, paid out $7,080 in prize money, and had 40 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,830 bringing the total event payout to $12,910.  

Scores to cash on the 42 foot “Autobahn” pattern were 678 at 1pm and 684 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was 2nd place finisher William Tudy with a 1,369. High series of the day was shot by Donald Eubanks with a 774 in the 2nd squad.
