PIERCE FIELD STRIKES OUT TO WIN FIRST TITLE!

Babylon, NY: The LIGBT ran its 3rd sport shot series event of Season 17 at AMF Babylon and there couldn’t have been a more exciting finish. Pierce Field, Shirley, NY struck out in his final frame to defeat Angel Villavicencio, Whitestone, NY 249-248. Pierce’s first LIGBT title was worth $1,000 while Angel took home $600 for 2nd place. Finishing in 3rd, with a 222, was Guy Sereno, Massapequa, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY with a 173 worth $300.

The final shootout was a tight contest for all ten frames. Angel and Pierce were close early in the match but when Pierce opened in the 7th frame Angel took a 13-pin lead. But after Pierce’s open in frame 7, he struck out to capture the title even though Angel doubled in the 9th and 10th frames. Guy was close throughout the match, but after starting with a 4 timer, he couldn’t string together late strikes and settled for 3rd place. Andrew, who was looking for his 10th LIGBT title, couldn’t get comfortable with the changing pattern and finished 4th.  

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 115 entries, paid out $5,625 in prize money, and had 30 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,425 bringing the total event payout to $9,050.  

Scores to cash on the Route 66 pattern were 740 at noon and 707 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace, NY with a 1,463 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY with an 800 series in the noon squad. Two women advanced to the finals; Monique Compton, Bronx, NY and Aime Matias, Staten Island, NY.   

LIGBT’s next tournament is a special “New Year’s Day House Shot” tournament at AMF E. Meadow on Wednesday, January 1st (noon start.) MARK FERRARA & QUAN JACOB DOMINATE

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran its second house shot series event of Season 17 at AMF Garden City and crowned 2 great champions. The handicap title was won by Mark Ferrara, Massapequa Park, NY worth $1,000. The scratch title was won by Quan Jacob, Palisades Park, NJ worth $450. The top 2 in the scratch event was the exact opposite as Quan won the scratch title and Mark finished in 2nd place. Mark earned $1,250 in prize money while Quan took home $950.

The 4-person handicap final shootout quickly became a 2-person match between Mark and Quan. Mark, who was getting 11 pins in handicap from Quan, threw 10 out of 11 strikes before finishing with a 9-count and a 289 handicap game. Quan started with 6 strikes, and actually took the lead from Mark in the 6th frame. But Quan failed to strike in the 7th and 10th frames and had to settle for 2nd place and the $500 prize. Mark locked up the title with a double in the 10th.  Doug Roszkowski, Greenwich, CT started slow but finished with a 6-timer to grab 3rd place with a 229 earning $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Vito Genova Sr., Franklin Square, NY with a 223 worth $250.

Quan won the scratch event by shooting an incredible 1039 series to earn the $450 top prize. Finishing in 2nd place, just 7 pins behind, was Mark Ferrara with a 1032 series earning $250. Rounding out the top 3 in scratch was Joel Wagan, New Hyde Park, NY with a 987 worth $150. The scratch event drew 16 entries and paid out a 4-person prize list totaling $960.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #2 drew a field of 67 entries, paid out $4,160 in prize money, and had 16 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,360 bringing the day’s total payout to $6,520. Scores to cash were 969 in the 49 & under handicap division, 948 in the senior handicap division, and 950 in the scratch event.

DONALD EUBANKS & JOSE ZAMBRANO SPORT SHOT DOUBLES CHAMPIONS

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT ran its first Sport Shot Doubles tournament at AMF E. Meadow and crowned 2 champions. The winning doubles team was Donald Eubanks, Elmsford, NY and Jose Zambrano, Jackson Heights, NY shooting a 1,964 four-game series to earn the $2,000 top prize. This was the first time these competitors bowled together as doubles partners.  

Finishing in 2nd place, just 3 pins behind with a 1,961 total, was Donald Eubanks, but with a different partner, Richard Hill, Brooklyn, NY earning the $1,000 runner-up prize. In third place was the team of Wesley Grant, Central Islip, NY and Richard Hill with a 4-game total of 1,955 worth $600. Rounding out the top 4 was the team of Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY and Richard Hill with a 4-game total of 1,949 worth $500. Richard cashed in 3 of the top 4 spots with a fine 1,008 handicap series and Donald cashed in 5 out of the top 10 spots with a 953 handicap series.

A separate optional singles event was offered and won by Jose Zambrano with a 1,011 series worth $250. Finishing in 2nd was Kameron Smith, Tobyhanna, PA with a 1,001 total worth $125. Rounding out the top 3 in singles was Donald Eubanks with a 953 worth $100. A total of 42 entries paid the optional $20 singles entry fee generating a 10-person $840 prize list.

The doubles event drew a nice field of 71 teams, with 10 teams cashing in the $5,720 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $3,835 bringing the day’s total payout to $9,555. The cut score to cash on the “Autobahn” pattern was 1,845.

LIGBT’s next event is House Shot Series #2 at AMF Garden City on Sunday, December 8th—noon start. This is a 1-squad scratch and handicap event featuring 4-game qualifying and a shootout final. The LIGBT is sponsored by Brunswick, Randi B. Siegel Law Offices, Many Styles of Bowling, and Turbo Grips, with all final shootouts streamed on W.O.N. Television.
