XAVIER MARTIN WINS HOUSE SHOT SPECTACULAR

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for its third House Shot Spectacular and crowned a new champion; Xavier Martin, Brentwood, NY. Xavier won his first LIGBT title, and the $1,500 top prize, by defeating Pierce Field, Shirley, NY 297-256 in an incredible performance. While Pierce earned $750 for 2nd place, there was a tie for 3rd and 4th place with Joe Scianna, Long Island, NY and Silk Nixon, Bronx, NY both shooting 213 and each earning $450. Rounding out the top 5 was Dominick Steed, Farmingdale, NY with a 198 worth $300.

The final shootout quickly became a 2-person race between Xavier and Pierce. Xavier started with a spare and then threw the next 9 strikes. Pierce stayed close also striking almost every frame but a split in his 7th frame crushed his title hopes. Joe and Silk were close all 10 frames and finished in a tie when Joe threw a strike in his final ball of the 10th frame. Dominick bowled well but couldn’t string strikes and had too many splits.

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular drew 128 entries generating a 33-person prize list totaling $7,060. The side action awarded an additional $2,010 bringing the total event payout to $9,070. Donna Ryan and Shawn Cummings were the 2 bowling ball winners donated by Mike D’Ambrosio of Coach’s Corner pro shop.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 663-713. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 678 to 725. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 665-673. The wildcard winners were Robert Hamilton, W. Palm Beach, FL (1,341), Weldon Drayton Jr., Brentwood, NY (1,406), and Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY (1,339.) High series of the tournament was shot by Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY with a 780 in the 2pm squad.

NOLAN HERRON WINS SPORT SHOT SPECTACULAR!

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT made a stop at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday to run a Sport Shot Spectacular. Nolan Herron, Fairfield, CT, was home from college on spring break and took home the $1,500 top prize by defeating Jayson Holley, Rosedale, NY 243-235. While Jayson earned $800 for his runner-up position, finishing in 3rd was left-handed Cameron Potts, Babylon, NY with a 216 worth $500. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Anthony Kemp, Fresh Meadows, NY with a 203 worth $400 and 5th place finisher youth bowler Jason Lam, Oakland Gardens, NY with a 200 earning a $300 SMART scholarship.

The final shootout was exciting with Nolan taking the early lead with 4 strikes in his first 5 frames. Jayson, who had 28 pin handicap advantage, started with 5 spares in this first 6 frames to stay close to Nolan. But in the 8th frame Nolan missed a 1-pin spare tightening the match. Nolan immediately bounced back with a double in the last 2 frames to secure his 2nd LIGBT title. Cameron tripled in the 10th frame to jump to third place. Anthony bowled well but left 4 splits and Jason missed 3 makeable spares to settle for 5th place.

The LIGBT 3-squad sport shot tournament drew 152 entries, paid out $8,250 in prize money, and had 41 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,445 bringing the total event payout to $12,695.  

Scores to cash on the “Boardwalk” pattern were 660 at noon, 649 at 2pm, and 653 at 4pm. The wildcard winners were Al Green, Westbury, NY (1,309) and Jason Lam (1,323.) High series of the day was shot by youth bowler Jaiden Ng, Syosset, NY with a 736 series in the noon squad. The Brunswick and Turbo raffle winners were Maggie Joseph and Shawn Cummings. The LIGBT welcomed 15 new members at AMF E. Meadow.

AZEEM AUSTIN & RANDALL FRASER DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF E. MEADOW

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT visited AMF E. Meadow for a house shot Handicap Doubles tournament. The winning team of the 4-game event was Austin Azeem, South Ozone, NY and Randall Fraser, Bridgeport, CT shooting a 2,153 series. Their 79-pin victory was worth $2,000

Finishing in 2nd place, with a 2,074 total, was, CJ Carlester, Bridgeport, CT and Randall Fraser earning the $1,200 runner-up prize. In third place was the team of Coram Lam, Westport, CT and Randall Fraser with a 2,049 total worth $900. Rounding out the top 4 was the team of Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY and Jalessa Taylor, Flushing, NY with a 4-game total of 2,036 worth $800.

A separate optional singles event was offered and won by Chris Kubelka, Deer Park, NY with an 1,113 worth $300. There was tie for 2nd place with 1,048 shot by Gerg Dessi, Huntington St., NY and Randall Fraser each earning $150. Rounding out the top 4 in singles was Alex Padmore with a 1,040 worth $80. A total of 54 entries paid the $20 singles entry fee generating a 13-person $1,065 prize list.

The doubles event drew an incredible field of 134 teams, with 23 teams cashing in the $11,400 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $4,415 bringing the day’s total payout to $16,855. The cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,949. John Boble, Commack, NY shot the only 300 game of the day. The Brunswick ball and Turbo triple roller raffle winners were John Gifford and Janet Gochman. The LIGBT welcomed 30 new members at AMF E. Meadow.

LIGBT’s next event is a Sport Shot Major at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, March 23rd with 3 squads; noon-2pm-4pm. This is a handicap event featuring a $1,500 top prize. The LIGBT is sponsored by Brunswick, Randi B. Siegel Law Offices, Many Styles of Bowling, and Turbo Grips, with all final shootouts streamed on W.O.N. Television.

LEON KESEE JR WINS HOUSE SHOT MAJOR!

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran a 2-day House Shot Major at AMF Garden City and the event was won by Leon Kessee Jr., Hempstead, NY. Leon won his first LIGBT title by defeating Azeem Austin, South Ozone Park, NY 238-228 in the final shootout. Leon earned $2,000 for his victory while Austin, who was also looking for his first LIGBT title, won $1,000 as the runner-up. Finishing in third place with a 222 was youth bowler Mithrandir Loutan, Rosedale, NY earning a $500 SMART scholarship. Finishing in both 4th and 5th place, as a representative of both the senior handicap and scratch divisions, was Johnny Cummings, New York, NY with a 216 earning a total of $700. Rounding out the top 6 was Rob Miller, Manorville, NY with a 212 worth $300.

The final shootout was a great match as the champion wasn’t decided until the final frame. Leon and Azeem were tied going into the 10th and both were on 9th frame strikes. Leon grabbed the title by striking in the 10th while Azeem threw a 9-count. The battle for the last 4 spots was just as intense as the other competitors were separated by under 10 pins going into the final frame. Mithrandir threw his final 4 strikes to grab onto third place. Johnny bowled solid, shooting a clean game and took 4th and 5th place. Rob bowled well but had an open in the 6th frame and finished in 6th place.

The LIGBT House Shot Major drew 209 entries and paid out an $11,710 prize fund to 57 cashers. The side action awarded an additional $4,560 bringing the total event payout to $16,270. Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 696-719. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 679 to 721. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 669-726. The wildcard winners were Kim Harris (1,436), Guy Sereno (1,437), Leon Kessee Jr. (1,370), Joe Scianna (1,306 & 1,318) and Ed Eng (1,407.) High series of the tournament was shot by Mark Ferrara, Massapequa Park, NY with an 813 (798 scratch.)
