MANIRAM BASDEO WINS TITLE #8 AT HOUSE SHOT SPECTACULAR

Deer Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Strike 10 Deer Park for a House Shot Spectacular, a 3-squad event featuring 3 divisions. Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY, representing the senior handicap division, defeated 16-year-old Mithrandir Loutan, Rosedale, NY, who advanced from the scratch division, 259-248. Maniram earned the $1,500 top prize while “Mith” took home a $900 SMART scholarship. Finishing in 3rd and 4th was Nick Eckert, Port Jeff Station, NY with a 235 earning a total of $1,100. Nick advanced to the final shootout from both the scratch and handicap divisions. In 5th place was Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY rolling a 200 worth $400. Rounding out the top 6 was Julio Arnold, Woodside, NY with a 166 worth $300.

The final shootout was exciting and became a 3-person competition with Maniram, Nick and Mith fighting for the title. With Maniram having a 45-pin handicap advantage it was just too much of for the 2 scratch finalists to overcome even though they bowled well. Maniram played it smart with his handicap advantage and kept hitting the head pin and making spares. Donna bowled well but had 2 opens and Julio couldn’t strike on the “TV pair.”

The LIGBT House Shot Spectacular was a great event as it drew 152 entries generating a 39-person prize list totaling $8,530. The side action awarded an additional $2,955 bringing the total event payout to $11,485. Donna Ryan and Dexter Wharton won a bowling ball courtesy of Coach’s Corner pro shop.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 687-699. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 692 to 706. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 676-692. The wildcard winners were Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY (1,337), Mithrandir Loutan (1,343), and Dominick Steed, Farmingdale, NY (1,382.)

WARREN FLOYD JR. WINS HANDICAP TITLE PIERCE FIELD TAKES SCRATCH TITLE

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT ran its 4th house shot series event of Season 17 and it was one of the highest scoring tournaments ever run by the club. The handicap title was won by senior bowler Warren Floyd Jr., Milford, NJ worth $1,000. The scratch title was won by Pierce Field, Shirley, NY earning $500. This was Warren’s first LIGBT title and Pierce’s 3rd consecutive top of the leader board finish.

The handicap final shootout was close as there were several lead changes throughout the match. Donald Eubanks, Danbury, CT was getting the most handicap and took the early lead with a triple in frames 2-4. Donald finished in 3rd place with a 241 earning $300. Stephen Jones, Massapequa, NY stayed close with an early triple but 2 fouls hurt his title chances. Stephen finished in 4th place with a 196 worth $250. Josh Agliam, a 15-year-old New Hyde Park High School student, shot the only clean game of the shootout and finished in 2nd place to earn a $500 scholarship with a 247. Warren grabbed the title with 8 strikes in a row starting in the 4th frame. His 279 earned him the $1,000 top prize and gave him a comfortable 32 pin victory.    

Pierce won the scratch event by shooting an amazing 1,028 4-game total worth $500. Finishing in 2nd place, 69 pins behind Pierce, was Michael Pflug, W. Babylon, NY with a 959 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Darius Fuller, Bayshore, NY with a 944 worth $170. The scratch event drew 23 entries and paid out a 7-person prize list totaling $1,360.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #4 drew a field of 87 entries, paid out $5,200 in prize money, and had 23 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,530 bringing the day’s total payout to $7,730. Scores to cash were 991 in the 49 & under handicap division, 968 in the senior handicap division, and 928 in the scratch event. High series for the day was shot by Stephen Jones with a 1045 scratch and 1145 handicap total. Two 300 games were bowled; Darius Fuller and Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY.

DALE ALBERINO & PIERCE FIELD DOUBLES CHAMPIONS AT AMF WANTAGH

Wantagh, NY:  The LIGBT visited AMF Wantagh for a house shot Handicap Doubles tournament. The winning team, of the 4-game event, was Dale Alberino, N. Massapequa, NY and Pierce Field, Shirley, NY shooting a 4-game total of 2,016. Their 25-pin victory was worth $2,000. This was the first time Dale and Pierce teamed up in an LIGBT doubles event.     

Finishing in 2nd place, with a 1,911 total, was Darius Fuller, Bayshore, NY and Carmelo Randazzo, Farmingdale, NY earning the $1,000 runner-up prize. In third place was the team of John Rodriguez, W. Babylon, NY and Matt Mehl, Deer Park, NY with a 1,954 total worth $700. Rounding out the top 4 was the team of Francesca Rossi, Patchogue, NY and John Studioso, Bayshore, NY with a 4-game total of 1,906 worth $500.

A separate optional singles event was offered and was won by Darius Fuller with a 953 total worth $230. Finishing in 2nd was Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY with a 939 total worth $150. Rounding out the top 3 in singles was Steve Lanzer, W. Islip NY with a 935 worth $100. A total of 38 entries paid the $20 singles entry fee which generated a 9-person $760 prize list.

The doubles event drew a field of 92 teams, with 15 teams cashing in the $7,570 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $3,960 bringing the day’s total payout to $11,530. The cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,809. The Brunswick ball and Turbo triple roller raffle winners were Donna Ryan, Matt Cummings, and Rocco Furano III. The LIGBT welcomed 17 new members at AMF Wantagh.

LIGBT’s next event is House Shot Series #4 at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, February 2nd—noon start. This is a 1-squad scratch and handicap event featuring 4-game qualifying and a shootout final. The LIGBT is sponsored by Brunswick, Randi B. Siegel Law Offices, Many Styles of Bowling, and Turbo Grips, with all final shootouts streamed on W.O.N. Television.

DANIEL GEHRIG’S 12 YEAR WAIT IS OVER! WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE!

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #4 at AMF Garden City on Sunday and saw Daniel Gehrig, Baldwin, NY win his first title and the $1,000 top prize. Daniel, who joined the LIGBT in 2013, ended his 12 years of futility by defeating Chris Colon, Brooklyn, NY 266-262. Chris, was also searching for his first title, earned $500. Finishing in 3rd was JoJo Alcantara, Flushing, NY with a 235 worth $300. Rounding out the top 5 was 4th place finisher Lou Barbera, N. Bellmore, NY with a 233 worth $250 and 5th place went to Stephen Jones, Massapequa, NY with a 191 earning him $200.

The final shootout was dominated early by Chris who began the match with 6 strikes. Daniel couldn’t string strikes early and kept leaving 9 counts. But starting in his 5th frame Daniel threw 6 out of 7 strikes, and when Chris opened in the 7th frame, the lead changed hands. Chris still had a chance to win the title in his final frame by throwing a double. But a 9-count put an end to his title hopes.

In the final shootout JoJo had 4 opens in his first 6 frames but a late 4 timer moved him to third place. Lou bowled a clean game but could not throw a string of strikes and settled for 4th place. Stephen had 2 opens and never was able to string strikes and finished in 5th place.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 70 entries, paid out $3,415 in prize money, and had 18 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $2,255 bringing the total event payout to $5,670.  

Scores to cash on the “Sunset Strip” pattern were 666 at noon and 662 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Stephen Jones with a 1,335 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by our 4th place finisher Lou Barbera with a 778 series in the 2pm squad.

GARY KURENSKY WINS NYD TOURNAMENT!

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT kicked off 2025 with a 2-squad house shot tournament. Gary Kurensky, Milford, CT came out of the scratch division to win his first LIGBT event and the $1,200 top prize. Gary earned the NYD title by defeating 50 & over handicap finalist Peter Kelton, Holtsville, NY 245-238. Peter earned $800 for 2nd place. Third place was taken by senior handicap bowler Rich Martinez, Howard Beach, NY with a 218 worth $600. The 4th spot in the shootout was 49 & under handicap bowler Greg Edwards, Westbury, NY with a 209 worth $400. Rounding out the last 2 positions was Ed Ziemak, Thiells, NY with a 196. Ed advanced to the shootout from both the scratch and 49 & under handicap divisions earning a total of $650.

The final shootout quickly became a 2-man battle between Gary and Pete. Gary struck in his first 7 out of 8 frames to jump ahead of Pete even though Pete had a 25-pin handicap advantage. When Pete doubled in his 7th/8th frames it forced Gary to mark to win the title. Gary converted a 2-pin spare and raised the $1,200 winner’s check. 

The LIGBT NYD event drew 190 entries and paid out a $9,155 prize fund to 51 cashers. The side action awarded an additional $4,280 bringing the total event payout to $13,435. Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 698-727. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 689 to 718. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 700-709. Wildcard winners were Don Pendleton, Staten Island, NY (1,418), Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights (1,382), and Ryan Lashlee, Hopewell Junction, NY (1,434.)
