3 NEW LIGBT CHAMPIONS CROWNED AT LEVITTOWN LANES

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at Levittown Lanes and crowned three first time champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event was Erica Thompson, Ozone Park, NY.  The winner of the senior handicap event was Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY. The third champion was scratch winner; Greg Mintz Sr., Staten Island, NY.

Erica won her first LIGBT title, worth $700, by starting her 4-game block with a 300 game! This was Erica’s first ever perfect game. Erica’s 4-game handicap series was 1081 giving her a 25-pin victory over 2nd place finisher Gerard Gagliano, Hicksville, NY who finished with a 1056 series and earned $350. A total of 32 bowlers competed in the 49 & under handicap event which paid out a prize fund of $1,920 to 8 different cashers. It took a 1000 series to cash in this event.

Joe’s road to the senior handicap title, worth $700, was accomplished with a 1056 handicap series. Joe shot the only 900+ scratch series (912) in the senior event. Finishing in 2nd with a 1023 was Henry Van Engel, Bayside, NY with a 1023 earning him $350. A total of 34 bowlers competed in the senior handicap event which paid out $2,035 to 9 different cashers. It took a 966 series to cash in the senior handicap event.

Greg’s path to victory in the scratch event was boosted by his 289 in game 3 which gave him a winning series of 946 (236 average.) Greg’s 28 pin victory was worth $500. Finishing in second was Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ with a 918 worth $300. A total of 25 bowlers competed in the scratch tournament which paid out a prize fund of $1,500 to 6 different cashers. It took an 881 series to cash in the prize fund.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at Levittown Lanes drew 91 entries, paid out $5,455 in prize money, and had 23 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,910 bringing the total event payout to $9,365.

PETE DISTEFANO WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Garden City, NY: Pete DiStefano, Franklin Square, NY, had to wait 8 years for his first LIGBT title. The 61-year-old right-hander took no prisoners as he defeated Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY 300-266 in the final shootout. Pete’s victory was worth $1,000 while Max earned $550. Finishing in third, and earning $350, was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY with a 252. Rounding out the top 4 was Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY with a 217 earning him $300.   

The final shootout was a surprisingly high scoring contest as Pete started with 8 strikes in a row while Max and Joe began their title quest with the front 4. By the 7th frame Pete had his title locked up and the fight was for second place. Max secured the runner-up position when he threw a four-timer starting in the 7th frame. Darcy bowled well but just couldn’t string strikes.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful summer crowd of 110 entries, paid out $5,290 in prize money, and had 28 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,700 bringing the total event payout to $10,990. Cut scores to cash on the Kegel Boardwalk 35-foot pattern were 633 at 1pm and 665 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, went to Sam Cooke, Patchogue, NY with a 1328. Destiny Schaffer, Middle Island, NY was the highest finishing woman and earned $250.

LIGBT’s next tournament is at Levittown Lanes on Sunday, August 22nd. This will be a 1-squad (1pm) house shot event featuring 3 separate tournaments: 49 & under handicap/50+ handicap/scratch. KENNY BRUCE & JOE LABARGO LIGBT CHAMPIONS AT AMF E. MEADOW

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow and crowned 3 champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event, and also the scratch event, was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY.  Joe’s double victory earned him a total of $1,350. The winner of the senior handicap event was Kenny Bruce, Oceanside, NY. Kenny’s victory was worth $1,000.

Joe’s road to the 49 & under handicap title started when he qualified 2nd with an 1137 series. In the final shootout Joe shot a wonderful 273 handicap game narrowly defeating second place finisher Scott Gray, E. Meadow, NY (268- $380) by a mere 5 pins. Finishing in 3rd place was the top qualifier, Sam Farber, Merrick, NY with a 245 worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY with a 239 worth $200. The 49 & under event attracted 38 entries, cashed 10 spots, and paid out $2,280. 

Kenny’s road to the senior title began by shooting a 1062 series which placed him in the 4th qualifying position. The senior shootout involved 5 bowlers and Kenny earned the $1,000 top prize by finishing with a 273 game which giving him a 32-pin victory. Second place, worth $500, went to the top senior qualifier, Luis Collazo, E. Meadow, NY with a 241. Rounding out the top 5 was third place finisher Max Thomas with a 238 worth $250, 4th went to William Tudy, Brooklyn, NY with a 237 worth $225, and 5th place was taken by Dale Alberino, N. Massapequa, NY with a 208 worth $200. The 50 & over event attracted 54 entries, cashed 14 spots, and paid out $3,270. 

The scratch event was won by Joe LaBargo, earning $650, with a 1073 series. There was a tie for 2nd place as Max Thomas and Anthony Arias, Brooklyn, NY both finished with a 1021 and each earned $305. It took a 992 series to cash in the scratch event which drew 33 entries and paid out $1,980 to 9 different bowlers.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow drew an incredible summer crowd of 125 entries, paid out $7,530 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $9,910 bringing the total event payout to $17,440. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Ray Brooks, S. Ozone Park, NY.

GLENN & GREG EDWARDS & TAYO FARINU TRIO CHAMPIONS

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its first Trio’s Challenge tournament and a sold-out roster of 36 teams competed for close to $6,000 in prize money. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 3096 worth $2,400, was Glenn Edwards, Brooklyn, NY, Greg Edwards, Westbury, NY and Tayo Farinu, Cambria Heights, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 3067 total, and earning $1,350, was the team of Lawrence Bianco, Brooklyn, NY, Sam Farber, Merrick, NY and Chris Innella, Brooklyn NY.

The LIGBT teamed up with Keith Pappas of Levittown Lanes to create the Trio’s Challenge. A total of 6 teams cashed (1 in 6) as it took a 2,974 series to get to the cashing window. Scoring on the house shot was good but no perfect games were shot. The total payout of the main event was $5,940. The side action, which included both singles and team brackets, paid out an additional $9,955. Total payout for the day was $15,895. Kevin Sabella Sr., Lindenhurst, NY won a Storm ball in a special raffle.

LIGBT will be running its second Trio’s Challenge at AMF Garden City on Saturday, October 9th. The LIGBT will be teaming up with Tom Montilli of House Shot Heroes for this event. LIGBT’s next scratch and handicap singles tournament will be on Sunday, August 8th at AMF E.
