JEFF CHEN DOMINATES TO WIN HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Plainview, NY:  Jeff Chen, Jackson Heights, NY won his first LIGBT title with a convincing victory in the shootout finals at AMF Plainview. Jeff shot a 269 handicap game to easily defeat second place finisher Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace, NY by 47 pins and Kevin Rabich, Ridge, NY by 82 pins. While Jeff earned $1,000 and a beautiful trophy, Eric took home $500 with his 222 game and Kevin earned $250 with a 187.

The final shootout was started out slow for all 3 finalists as each one had an open by the second frame. Jeff threw a string of cross over strikes while the other two bowlers were having trouble striking which resulted in the match being over by the 8th frame. With a bit of luck and a huge handicap advantage Jeff earned his first LIGBT title.

The AMF Plainview tournament drew a great summer crowd of 112 bowlers. The shot for the tournament was Kegel’s “Highway to Hell” (40 feet) and scoring was fairly low for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 668, and in the 3pm squad 684. High handicap series was shot by Greg Eskow, Syosset, NY with a 781 to lead the 3pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, August 4th at Rockville Centre Lanes. This will be a regular 2-squad handicap singles event with top prizes guaranteed at $1,000 & $500. DWIGHT DUNKLEY WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Babylon, NY:  Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY won the $1,000 top prize at AMF Babylon at an LIGBT Summer Tournament. Dwight won his first LIGBT title with a 250 handicap game which was good enough to defeat Sean Tehan, East Islip, NY (244) and Rob Foerster, Huntington, NY (143) in the final shootout. Sean earned $500 for his runner-up position while Rob took home $300 for third place.

The final shootout was a 2 man race that went to the final frame. Sean tripled in the final 2 frames to force Dwight to mark in his final frame. When Dwight converted a 6 pin in the tenth it clinched his first title. All 3 shootout finalists were looking for their first LIGBT title.  

The AMF Babylon tournament drew an incredible summer crowd of 128 bowlers. The shot for the tournament was Sunset Strip (40 feet) and scoring was fairly high for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 723, and in the 3pm squad 701. High handicap series was shot by Steve Baum, Commack, NY with a 790 to lead the 3pm squad.

RON HATCHETT WINS $2,000 AND HIS FIRST LIGBT TROPHY

East Meadow, NY: Ron Hatchett, New York, NY won his first LIGBT title and $2,000 this past Sunday at AMF East Meadow. Ron, who has finished second twice, got to the winner’s circle by defeating Angelo DeSena, Brooklyn, NY 268-232. Finishing third with a 216 was Kevin Belandria, Philadelphia, PA who earned $500. Fourth place went to Kevin Smith, Woodmere, NY ($300) and fifth went to Mack Oakman Jr., Wheatley Heights, NY earning $200.

The final shootout was a great one as the winner wasn’t determined until the final frame. Angelo bowled a fantastic game for the first 9 frames and had a 3 pin lead over Ron going into the last frame. But Angelo knocked down only 5 pins total in the tenth and Ron, who was on a strike in the 9th, doubled in the tenth to secure his victory.

LIGBT’s first July 4th major drew an incredible crowd of 231 bowlers. Over $7,000 in prize money was paid out to 45 different bowlers. More than 40% of the entrants cashed during the 3-day event. Scoring was on the low side all weekend as the competition was played on Kegel’s 35 foot Boardwalk pattern. High series of the weekend was shot by Derek Brandi, Whitestone, NY with an 807. Most of the cuts scores each squad were around 680.
