DARRYL FREEMAN WINS TITLE #3

New Hyde Park, NY:   Darryl Freeman, a 61-year-old fitness specialist from Forest Hills, NY, won LIGBT’s latest sport shot tournament at Herrill Lanes. Darryl won the $1,100 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Robert Aiello, Oceanside, NY 248-229. While Robert earned $700 for his runner-up position, finishing in third place, with a 217, was Eddie Walker, Washington D.C. earning $500. Rounding out the top 4 was Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with a 197 earning him $350.

The final shootout was very competitive as the winner wasn’t decided until the tenth frame. Midway through the final game the top 3 were separated by just 6 pins. Darryl took the lead with a triple starting in frame 6, while Robert doubled/spared in the same frames. Darryl locked up his third LIGBT title by striking out in the tenth frame leaving Robert 19 pins behind. Eddie stayed close the entire match but opened in the 10th to settle for third place. Darryl McDuffie, who was giving everyone pins, could not string early strikes and finished in 4th place.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an incredible crowd of 121 entries, paid out $6,070 in prize money, and had 31 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,360 bringing the total event payout to $13,430. Cut scores to cash on the 42-foot Mark Roth pattern were 692 at 1pm and 693 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Sun Kim, Flushing, NY with a 1383. Toronto McCain, Jamaica, NY won the Storm Ball raffle.

LIGBT’s next tournament is our annual Labor Day Weekend Major at AMF Garden City; Friday, September 2nd and Sunday, September 4th. ANDREW MIENKIEWICZ, JORDAN OCKIMEY, & TODD DAVID AMF SYOSSET HOUSE SHOT CHAMPIONS

Syosset, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 4-game house shot tournament featuring 3 different prize funds. The winner of the 49 & under handicap event was Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY. The winner of the 50 & over handicap tournament was Todd David, Staten Island, NY. The scratch champion was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY. This was Jordan’s and Todd’s first LIGBT title while Andrew has won multiple times.

Jordan’s road to the 49 & under title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1005. That was good enough for 2nd place, and with the top 4 advancing, Jordan had a shot at his first LIGBT title. Jordan shot a fine 271 handicap game to earn the $550 top prize. Finishing in 2nd place, just 11 pins behind, was Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY with a 260 worth $300. In third place was the squad leader, Steven J. Smith, New York, NY shooting a 231 worth $225. Rounding out the top 4 was Hubert Stowe, Wyandanch, NY with a 219 worth $200.   

Todd David is a great front runner. He led the senior qualifying with a 1002 handicap series. In the final shootout Todd started strong and never looked back finishing with a 272 worth $700. Finishing in second, with a 229, was Bill Verni, W. Babylon, NY earning $350. Third went to Michael Yu, Brooklyn, NY, with a 218 worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was Antoine Thurston, New York, NY with a 206 worth $200.

The scratch event was won by Andrew Mienkiewicz with an 899 series worth $400. Finishing in 2nd place was Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY with an 869 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Wesley Grant, Uniondale, NY with an 865 worth $125.

The LIGBT house shot tournament at AMF Syosset drew a field of 78 entries, paid out $4,625 in prize money, and had 19 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,095 bringing the total day’s payout to $7,720. Cut scores to cash on the house shot were 911 in the under division, 907 in the senior division, and 865 in the scratch event. Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY won the Storm ball raffle.

DAVID CINCOTTA, GEORGE MARKOTSIS, & TIMMY SIMTH JR. $3,000 TRIO CHAMPIONS

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its fourth Trio’s Handicap Challenge at AMF E. Meadow and had its largest field ever. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 2,968 worth $3,000, was Dave Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY, George Markotsis, Deer Park, NY and Timmy Smith Jr., W. Islip, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 2,952 total, and earning $1,650, was the team of Vernon Mackey, Brooklyn, NY, Ray Tang, College Point, NY, and Michael Yu, Brooklyn, NY.

The AMF E. Meadow house shot produced some very fine scores. Finishing in third place with a 2,943 worth $900 was the team of Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY, Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY and Wynford Walters, Brooklyn, NY. Rounding out the top 4, earning $600 was the team of Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY, Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY and Stephen Russell, Central Islip, NY. The top 6 teams cashed (1 in 6) as it took a 2,805 total to get to the cashing window.   

In addition to the team event, a separate singles competition was offered. The singles champion was Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY with a 1091 four-game series worth $500. Finishing in 2nd was George Markotsis with a 1006 series worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Derrick Griffin, Valley Stream, NY with a 998 worth $200. A total of 71 bowlers entered the optional singles which paid 18 spots. It took a 946 series to cash. The entire $30 entry fee was returned as prize money with the total prize fund paying out $2,135.

The Trio’s competition drew a record 37 teams (111 bowlers) generating a team prize fund of $6,900. The side action paid out an additional $6,130 bringing the day’s total payout, including the optional singles event, to $15,165. Debra Newton, Brooklyn, NY won a new Storm ball in the bowling ball raffle.  

LIGBT’s next event is a house shot singles tournament at AMF Syosset on Sunday, August 14th (1pm.) This 4-game event features 3 separate prize funds: scratch, handicap 49 & under, and handicap 50+.
