New Hyde Park, NY: Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY, is a man with great patience. He joined the LIGBT in 2010 and had bowled 90 tournaments without a victory but many cashes. The 62-year-old right-hander finally broke through to the winner’s circle in his 91^st event at Herrill Lanes. Devon defeated 2^nd place finishers Tayo Farinu, Cambia Heights, NY and Abel David, Franklin Square, NY 225-204 to earn the $1,000 top prize. Tayo and Abel both earned $425 for their second-place finish. Rounding out the top 4 was Paige Sztabnik, Cold Spring Harbor, NY with a 181 worth $250.

The final shootout was an exciting match as 3 of the competitors had a shot at the title going into the final frame. Devon, who was giving handicap to the other 3 competitors, had the lead most of shootout but when he opened in the 9^th frame it gave Tayo and Abel a shot at the title. Tayo opened in the final frame and Abel could not double giving Devon his well-deserved victory.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful fall crowd of 90 entries, paid out $4,410 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window (1 in 3.75.) The side action awarded an additional $4,225 bringing the total event payout to $8,635. Cut scores to cash on the PBA Mark Roth 42-foot pattern were 672 at 1pm and 673 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was shot by Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 1338.

LIGBT’s next tournament is at AMF Garden City on Saturday, October 9th. This will be a special Trio’s challenge featuring a $3,000 top prize. E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow and crowned three great champions. The winner of the lower average handicap event was Joe Ferraiolo, W. Islip, NY.  The winner of the upper average handicap event was Max Thomas, Babylon, NY. The 3rd champion was the scratch winner Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY. Each event featured 4-games with total wood determining the final position

Joe Ferraiolo won the lower average handicap event with a 4-game total of 1112, worth $750. Finishing just 3 pins behind, with an 1109 series, was Sang Hyub Oh, Fresh Meadows, NY earning $400. A total of 37 bowlers competed in this division which paid out a prize fund of $2,310 to 10 different cashers. It took a 988 series to cash in the lower average handicap event.

Max Thomas won the upper average handicap event with a 4-game total of 1065, worth $750. Finishing in second place, with a 1037 series, was Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY earning $400. A total of 36 bowlers competed in this division which paid out $2,310 to 9 different cashers. It took a 988 series to cash in the upper average handicap event.

Brian Becktold won the scratch event with a 978 series (244 average) worth $550. Finishing in 2^nd place, just 9 pins behind Brian, was Max Thomas with a 969 series worth $300. Rounding out the top 3, with a 964, was Nick DeFazio, W. Islip, NY with a 964 worth $250. The scratch event attracted 30 entries and paid out a $1,820 prize fund to 8 different cashers. It took an 898 series to cash in the scratch tournament.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow drew a record September crowd of 103 entries, paid out $6,440 in prize money, and had 25 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $5,880 bringing the total event payout to $12,320.

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot major at AMF Garden City and crowned 3 champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event was Glenn Edward, Brooklyn, NY. The winner of the senior handicap event was Daniel Todaro, Farmingdale, NY. The scratch champion was Justin Kampf, Levittown, NY. The 3 champions earned a total of $3,700.   

Glenn’s road to the title began by shooting an incredible 860 in the Friday 8pm squad. In the final shootout Glenn threw the only clean game of the 5-person competition to earn the $1,200 top prize. Glenn began the final match with a 4-timer and never looked back. Finishing in second place, with a 247, was Darius Fuller, Bayshore, NY earning $700. Third place went to Sam Farber, Merrick, NY with a 236 worth $400. Rounding out the top 5 was 4^th place finisher Sang Hyub Oh with a 219 worth $300 and 5^th place finisher Charles Ko with a 216 earning $250. The 49 & under handicap event had 91 entries with 28 bowlers cashing (3 to 1 ratio) and a total prize fund of $5,330 including $1,235 added to the prize fund from LIGBT’s escrow account.

Daniel’s march to the senior handicap title started when he qualified with a 742 in the Sunday 2pm squad. In the final shootout Dan started with a triple and finished with another triple to shoot a fine 263 worth $1,500. Finishing in second was Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY with a 250 worth $750. Third place went to Robert Tibbs, Hempstead, NY with a 233 worth $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Sun Kim, Flushing, NY with a 219 worth $350. The senior handicap event attracted 146 entries with 38 bowlers cashing (3.8 to 1 ratio) and paying out a total prize fund of $7,440 including $510 added to the prize fund from LIGBT’s escrow account.

Justin’s road to the scratch title began on Friday when he led the 10pm squad with a 729 series. The 6-person scratch final shootout was a strike fest with Justin throwing strikes in every frame except the 7^th when he had an open frame. Adam Chase, N. Babylon, NY starting with the first 7 strikes but a ringing 10 pin on his first ball in the 10^th frame cost him the title. Justin shot a 265 worth $1,000 while Adam finished with a 259 earning him $700. Finishing in third was Abdul Sulley, Brooklyn, NY with a 226 worth $500. Fourth went to Tom Montilli, Bronx, NY with a 223 worth $400. Rounding out the top 6 was 5^th place finisher Tom Coraci, Mastic Beach, NY with a 214 earning $300 and Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY finishing in 6^th place with a 205 worth $250. The scratch tournament drew 89 entries, cashed 23 bowlers (1 to 3.8 ratio), and paid a prize fund of $4,255 with $250 added from the LIGBT escrow account.        

The LIGBT House Shot Major was a huge success with 365 total entries, 89 bowlers cashing, and an event payout of $17,025 (with $1,995 added by the LIGBT.) The side action paid out an additional $15,955 bringing the total event payout to $32,980. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Devon Johnson, Brooklyn NY.

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at Levittown Lanes and crowned three first time champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event was Erica Thompson, Ozone Park, NY.  The winner of the senior handicap event was Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY. The third champion was scratch winner; Greg Mintz Sr., Staten Island, NY.

Erica won her first LIGBT title, worth $700, by starting her 4-game block with a 300 game! This was Erica’s first ever perfect game. Erica’s 4-game handicap series was 1081 giving her a 25-pin victory over 2^nd place finisher Gerard Gagliano, Hicksville, NY who finished with a 1056 series and earned $350. A total of 32 bowlers competed in the 49 & under handicap event which paid out a prize fund of $1,920 to 8 different cashers. It took a 1000 series to cash in this event.

Joe’s road to the senior handicap title, worth $700, was accomplished with a 1056 handicap series. Joe shot the only 900+ scratch series (912) in the senior event. Finishing in 2^nd with a 1023 was Henry Van Engel, Bayside, NY with a 1023 earning him $350. A total of 34 bowlers competed in the senior handicap event which paid out $2,035 to 9 different cashers. It took a 966 series to cash in the senior handicap event.

Greg’s path to victory in the scratch event was boosted by his 289 in game 3 which gave him a winning series of 946 (236 average.) Greg’s 28 pin victory was worth $500. Finishing in second was Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ with a 918 worth $300. A total of 25 bowlers competed in the scratch tournament which paid out a prize fund of $1,500 to 6 different cashers. It took an 881 series to cash in the prize fund.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at Levittown Lanes drew 91 entries, paid out $5,455 in prize money, and had 23 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,910 bringing the total event payout to $9,365.

Garden City, NY: Pete DiStefano, Franklin Square, NY, had to wait 8 years for his first LIGBT title. The 61-year-old right-hander took no prisoners as he defeated Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY 300-266 in the final shootout. Pete’s victory was worth $1,000 while Max earned $550. Finishing in third, and earning $350, was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY with a 252. Rounding out the top 4 was Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY with a 217 earning him $300.   

The final shootout was a surprisingly high scoring contest as Pete started with 8 strikes in a row while Max and Joe began their title quest with the front 4. By the 7^th frame Pete had his title locked up and the fight was for second place. Max secured the runner-up position when he threw a four-timer starting in the 7^th frame. Darcy bowled well but just couldn’t string strikes.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful summer crowd of 110 entries, paid out $5,290 in prize money, and had 28 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,700 bringing the total event payout to $10,990. Cut scores to cash on the Kegel Boardwalk 35-foot pattern were 633 at 1pm and 665 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, went to Sam Cooke, Patchogue, NY with a 1328. Destiny Schaffer, Middle Island, NY was the highest finishing woman and earned $250.

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow and crowned 3 champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event, and also the scratch event, was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY.  Joe’s double victory earned him a total of $1,350. The winner of the senior handicap event was Kenny Bruce, Oceanside, NY. Kenny’s victory was worth $1,000.

Joe’s road to the 49 & under handicap title started when he qualified 2^nd with an 1137 series. In the final shootout Joe shot a wonderful 273 handicap game narrowly defeating second place finisher Scott Gray, E. Meadow, NY (268- $380) by a mere 5 pins. Finishing in 3^rd place was the top qualifier, Sam Farber, Merrick, NY with a 245 worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY with a 239 worth $200. The 49 & under event attracted 38 entries, cashed 10 spots, and paid out $2,280. 

Kenny’s road to the senior title began by shooting a 1062 series which placed him in the 4^th qualifying position. The senior shootout involved 5 bowlers and Kenny earned the $1,000 top prize by finishing with a 273 game which giving him a 32-pin victory. Second place, worth $500, went to the top senior qualifier, Luis Collazo, E. Meadow, NY with a 241. Rounding out the top 5 was third place finisher Max Thomas with a 238 worth $250, 4^th went to William Tudy, Brooklyn, NY with a 237 worth $225, and 5^th place was taken by Dale Alberino, N. Massapequa, NY with a 208 worth $200. The 50 & over event attracted 54 entries, cashed 14 spots, and paid out $3,270. 

The scratch event was won by Joe LaBargo, earning $650, with a 1073 series. There was a tie for 2^nd place as Max Thomas and Anthony Arias, Brooklyn, NY both finished with a 1021 and each earned $305. It took a 992 series to cash in the scratch event which drew 33 entries and paid out $1,980 to 9 different bowlers.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF E. Meadow drew an incredible summer crowd of 125 entries, paid out $7,530 in prize money, and had 33 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $9,910 bringing the total event payout to $17,440. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Ray Brooks, S. Ozone Park, NY.

Levittown, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its first Trio’s Challenge tournament and a sold-out roster of 36 teams competed for close to $6,000 in prize money. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 3096 worth $2,400, was Glenn Edwards, Brooklyn, NY, Greg Edwards, Westbury, NY and Tayo Farinu, Cambria Heights, NY. Finishing in 2^nd place with a 3067 total, and earning $1,350, was the team of Lawrence Bianco, Brooklyn, NY, Sam Farber, Merrick, NY and Chris Innella, Brooklyn NY.

The LIGBT teamed up with Keith Pappas of Levittown Lanes to create the Trio’s Challenge. A total of 6 teams cashed (1 in 6) as it took a 2,974 series to get to the cashing window. Scoring on the house shot was good but no perfect games were shot. The total payout of the main event was $5,940. The side action, which included both singles and team brackets, paid out an additional $9,955. Total payout for the day was $15,895. Kevin Sabella Sr., Lindenhurst, NY won a Storm ball in a special raffle.

LIGBT will be running its second Trio’s Challenge at AMF Garden City on Saturday, October 9^th. The LIGBT will be teaming up with Tom Montilli of House Shot Heroes for this event. Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF Wantagh and crowned three different champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event was Lawrence Bianco, Brooklyn, NY.  The winner of the senior handicap event was Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park NY. The third champion was scratch winner; Aaron Rice, Islip Terrace, NY. Amazingly, all 3 Wantagh champions were first time winners.

Lawrence’s road to the title began with a 988 qualifying series which placed him as the 2^nd high qualifier behind squad leader David Raiford, Long Island City, NY who led with a 1016 series. Also advancing to the final shootout was Matthew Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY with a 980 series. The final shootout came down to the 10^th frame and when Lawrence ($700) threw a double on his first ball in the 10^th it gave him a 1 pin victory over David ($400); 274-273. Matt shot a 240 in the finals and earned $250 for third place.     

Darryl’s road to the title began by shooting a 1078 series which gave him the squad leader position. The senior shootout involved 5 bowlers and Darryl earned the $1,000 top prize by finishing with 6 strikes in a row to complete a 258 game. There was a tie for 2^nd place; Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY and Dennis McMillan, Jamaica, NY both shot 244 with each earning $375. Finishing in 4^th, and earning $225, was John Sandano, Brooklyn, NY with a 212. Rounding out the top 5 was Dave Soren, Long Beach, NY with a 204 worth $200.

The scratch event was won by Aaron Rice, earning $500, with a 982 series. Finishing in 2^nd, just 9 pins behind with a 973 was Jose Perez, E. Elmhurst, NY earning $365. Rounding out the top 3 was youth bowler, Timmothy Smith Jr. with a 964 earning him a $200 scholarship. It took an 899 series to cash in the scratch event which drew 24 entries and paid out $1,440.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF Wantagh drew a wonderful summer crowd of 106 entries, paid out $6,575 in prize money, and had 27 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $6,835 bringing the total event payout to $13,410. The scores to cash were 954 for the 49 & under event, 948 in the 50 + event and 899 in the scratch event.
