GREGORY MINTZ JR. & TONY GARIFO LIGBT SYOSSET CHAMPIONS

Syosset, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 3-event house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF Syosset and crowned its latest champions. The winner of the 49 and under handicap event, and also the winner of the scratch event, was Gregory Mintz Jr., Staten Island, NY. Greg won a total of $1,250 for his double victory. The winner of the senior handicap event was Tony Garifo, Freeport, NY earning $1,000 for his first LIGBT victory.  

The 49 and under handicap tournament drew 34 entries and paid out 8 cash spots. In the final shootout, Greg dominated by starting with 10 strikes in a row and finished with a 297 handicap game worth $750. Finishing in second, with a 233, was Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 3 was third place finisher Hubert Stowe, Wyandanch, NY with a 219 worth $250. It took a 977 to cash in the 49 & under prize fund that paid out $2,035.

The 50 & over handicap tournament drew 68 entries and paid out 18 cashing positions. In the senior final shootout Tony grabbed the title by striking out in the 9th/10th frames for a 9-pin victory over Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY. Tony finished with a 272 while Darcy rolled a 263 worth $550. Finishing in 3rd with a 244 was Phil Rivera, Franklin Square, NY earning $340. Fourth place went to Jong Bo Shim, Fresh Meadow, NY with a 243 worth $250. It took a 979 series to cash in the senior event which paid out $4,005.

The scratch tournament drew 22 entries and paid out 6 cashing positions. Gregory Mintz Jr. won his second title of the day, worth $500, with a wonderful 1020 4-game series. Quan Jacob, Bronx, NY finished in second with a 982 worth $250. Finishing in 3rd was Joe Zagari, Islip Terrace, NY with a 945 worth $200. It took an 895 to cash in the scratch event which paid out $1,325.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF Syosset drew a wonderful crowd of 123 entries, paid out $7,365 in prize money, and had 32 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $9,175 bringing the total event payout to $16,540. The LIGBT welcomed 8 new bowlers and gave away a Storm ball to Danny Alladadoeh, E. Elmhurst, NY who won the ball raffle.

RYON LEE WINS RECORD LIGBT EVENT

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 2-squad sport shot event at AMF E. Meadow and attracted an incredible 162 entries. The winner of this record event was Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY as he defeated Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ 269-240. Ryon’s first LIGBT title was worth $1,000 while Charles took home $600. Other top finishers were third place finisher Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 224 worth $450. Finishing in 4th was Tony Garifo, Coco Beach, FL with a 214 worth $400. Rounding out the top 6 was fifth place finisher Jaleesa Taylor, Flushing, NY with a 200 worth $350 and Sun Kim, Flushing, NY with a 195 worth $300.

The final shootout was dominated by Ryon as he threw 6 consecutive strikes after an open in the first frame. Charles stayed close by throwing the only clean game in the shootout but just couldn’t throw a string of strikes. When Ryon opened in the 8th frame it gave Charles a chance at the title but his hopes were dashed when Ryon marked in his final frame with his only spare of the match.

The LIGBT 2 squad sport shot tournament drew a record summer crowd of 162 entries, paid out $7,770 in prize money, and had 42 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $10,945 bringing the total event payout to $18,715. Cut scores to cash on the Kegel Broadway 37-foot pattern were 663 at 1pm and 678 at 3pm. The women’s guaranteed added two extra bowlers to the finals: Jaleesa Taylor and Cara Lathen, Bronx, NY. The wildcard winner was our champion Ryon Lee who shot a six-game block of 1384.

LIGBT’s next tournament is at AMF Syosset on Sunday, July 18th. This will be a 1-squad (1pm) house shot event featuring 3 separate tournaments: 49 & under handicap/50+ handicap/scratch. CHRIS WERBEN & MAX THOMAS LATEST SLT CHAMPIONS!

The Senior Legends Tour (SLT), sponsored by Storm Bowling, visited AMF E. Meadow and crowned two new champions. The winner of the handicap tournament, earning $1,000, was Chris Werben, E. Meadow NY. The winner of the scratch event was Max Thomas, Babylon, NY who earned $455. A total of 25 bowlers cashed in prize funds totaling $5,380.

The SLT Mini-Marathon featured 4 games with 1 in 4 bowlers cashing in each prize list and 1 in 10 handicap bowlers advancing to an elimination final. Dan Todaro, Farmingdale, NY was the handicap squad leader with an 1136 series, seeding him directly into the final shootout. The first round of the handicap finals had 6 bowlers with the top 3 advancing. It took a 230-handicap game to advance to the final shootout.

The final shootout was a very tight match and not decided until the 10th frame. Dan took the early lead with a double but missed two 10 pins late and settled for 4th place with a 218 worth $300. Anthony Hughes, Jamaica, NY bowled a strong 220, and had two doubles late in the game, but an open in the 6th forced him to settle for third place worth $350. Kyle Lathan, Bronx, NY bowled a weird game with a 4 timer, a double, and 4 open frames. Kyle finished in 2nd place, worth $500 with a 227. Chris bowled consistent the entire game, and finished strong with a triple, to lock up the title and the $1,000 top prize with a fine 238.

The scratch event was won by Max Thomas with a 985 worth $455. Finishing in second place, 21 pins behind, was Keith Cordy, Jamaica, NY with a 964 worth $250. Third place was taken by Don Pendleton, Staten Island, NY with a 944 worth $150. A total of 5 bowlers cashed in the scratch event which had a cashing score of 932.

The AMF E. Meadow tournament drew a total crowd of 89 senior entries and paid out $10,160 including the side action. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Twone Williams, Laurelton, NY. LENNY TORTORICI WINS LIGBT SPORT SHOT TOURNAMENT

New Hyde Park, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a sport shot event at Herrill Lanes on Sunday. Lenny Tortorici, a 50-year-old right-hander from Flushing, NY won the $1,000 top prize with a 1018 four game handicap series. This was Lenny’s first title in 11 years as a member of the LIGBT. Finishing in second, 39 pins behind first place, was Andrea Lawrence, New Hyde Park, NY who shot a 979 earning $550. This was Andrea’s first time cashing in an LIGBT tournament.

The tournament prize fund was determined by everyone’s 4-game handicap total. There were no finals due to the social distancing requirements. Other top finishers were Kyle Lathen, Bronx, NY, finishing third with a 971 worth $300. There was a tie for fourth place with a 964; Hubert Stowe, Wyandanch, NY and Dave Soren, Long Beach, NY both shot 964 and earned $235 each.

The LIGBT 1 squad sport shot tournament drew a nice summer crowd of 64 bowlers, paid out $3,835 in prize money, and had 16 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,780 bringing the total event payout to $7,615. Cut score to cash on the Autobahn 42 foot pattern was 900.

LIGBT’s next sport tournament is at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, July 11th. This will be a 2-squad event (1pm & 3pm) with a final. MONIQUE COMPTON, MAX THOMAS, ALEX VARGAS LIGBT FARMINGDALE CHAMPIONS

Farmingdale, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its monthly house shot Mini-Marathon at Farmingdale Lanes and crowned three champions: Monique Compton, Bronx, NY earned $1,000 by winning the 49 & under handicap event. Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY earned $1,000 by winning the 50 & over handicap tournament and Alex Vargas, Jersey City, NJ earned $650 by winning the scratch competition.

The 49 and under handicap tournament drew 54 entries and paid out 13 cash spots.  Monique shot a 1069 handicap series, 27 pins more than her closest competitor, to earn the $1,000 top prize. Monique dedicated her victory to her dear friend Staci Minkoff who recently lost her battle with cancer. Finishing in second was Tiffany Smalls, New York, NY with a 1042 series worth $500. It took a 976 series to cash in the 49 & under event which paid out $3,265.  

The 50 & over handicap tournament drew 64 entries and paid out 16 cashing positions. Max shot an 1105 handicap series, 51 pins more than his closest competitor, to earn the $1,000 top prize. Finishing in second was Tony Jimenez, W. Babylon, NY with a 1054 series worth $500. It took a 962 series to cash in the 50 & over event which paid out $3,790.

The scratch tournament drew 38 entries and paid out 9 cashing positions. Alex shot a 995 four game block to win the $650 top prize by just 2 pins. Finishing in second place, with a 993 scratch series, was the senior handicap winner, Max Thomas who earned an additional $430. It took an 898 series (224 average) to cash in the scratch event which paid out $2,280.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at Farmingdale Lanes drew an incredible crowd of 156 entries, paid out $9,335 in prize money, and had 38 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $10,110 bringing the total event payout to $19,445. The LIGBT welcomed 10 new bowlers and gave away a Storm ball to Max Thomas who won the Storm ball raffle.

DAN TODARO & DAN TWOMEY LATEST SLT CHAMPIONS!

Syosset, NY: The Senior Legends Tour (SLT), sponsored by Storm Bowling, visited AMF Syosset and crowned two new champions. The winner of the handicap tournament, earning $1,000, was Dan Todaro, Farmingdale, NY. The winner of the scratch event was Dan Twomey, Newark, NJ who earned $380. A total of 20 bowlers cashed in prize funds totaling $4,420.  

The SLT Mini-Marathon featured 4 games with 1 in 4 bowlers cashing in each prize list. In the handicap event Dan Todaro led from the first game and finished with a 1052 series worth $1,000. Finishing in second, 23 pins behind with a 1029, was Sun Kim, Flushing, NY earning $500. The handicap event had 54 entries, cashed 15 spots (932 cut) and paid out $3,340.

The scratch event was also 4 games with the top 5 battling it out the entire day. Finishing on top with a 959 was Dan Twomey earning $380. Finishing just 28 pins behind, with a 931, was Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY earning $250. The scratch event had 19 entries, cashed 5 spots, and paid out $1,080.  

The total payout for the Syosset event was $9,170. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Dexter Wharton, Brooklyn, NY. Gary Paulsen and Mitch Benov earned cash prizes in the raffle. Sun Kim earned $125 for winning the handicap eliminator. The side action attracted 109 brackets and paid out $4,750.

QUAN JACOB WINS $1,500 & TAYO FARINU WINS $1,000 AT AMF GARDEN CITY

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its monthly house shot Mini-Marathon at AMF Garden City and crowned three champions: Tayo Farinu, Cambria Heights, NY earned $1,000 by winning the 49 & under handicap event. Quan Jacob, Bronx, NY earned $1,000 by winning the 50 & over handicap tournament and another $500 by winning the scratch competition. Quan earned a total of $1,820 when you include the pots.

The 49 and under handicap tournament drew 43 entries and paid out 11 cash spots.  Tayo shot an 1154 handicap series, 32 pins more than his closest competitor, to earn the $1,000 top prize. Finishing in second was Robert Grieb, Deer Park, NY, with an 1122 series worth $500. It took a 1006 series to cash in the 49 & under event which paid out $2,750.  

The 50 & over handicap tournament drew 46 entries and paid out 11 cashing positions. Quan shot an 1141 handicap series, 26 pins more than his closest competitor, to earn the $1,000 top prize. Finishing in second was Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY with an 1115 series worth $500. It took a 1017 series to cash in the 50 & over event which paid out $2,755.

The scratch tournament drew 17 entries and paid out 4 cashing positions. Quan, who earned $500 for winning the scratch event, dominated by averaging an amazing 266 for four games. Finishing in second place, 133 pins behind Quan, was Daniel Twomey, Newark, NJ who earned $270. It took a 920 series (230 average) to cash in the scratch event which paid out $1,020.

The LIGBT Mini-Marathon at AMF Garden City drew a wonderful crowd of 106 entries, paid out $6,525 in prize money, and had 26 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $10,525 bringing the total event payout to $17,050. The LIGBT welcomed 11 new bowlers and gave away a Storm ball to Gabrielle Cantileno, Valley Stream, NY who won the ball raffle.

AL GREEN, PETE SCAVUZZO AND CHRIS THOMAS ARE LATEST SLT CHAMPIONS!

Wantagh, NY: The Senior Legends Tour (SLT), sponsored by Storm Bowling, visited AMF Wantagh and crowned three new champions. The winner of the handicap lower average tournament, earning $725, was Chris Thomas, Brooklyn, NY. The winner of the handicap higher average tournament was Al Green, Westbury, NY also earning $725. The winner of the scratch event was Pete Scavuzzo, Holbrook, NY who earned $450.  

The SLT Mini-Marathon featured 4 game qualifying with the top 2 advancing to a one-game match to determine the 3 champions. In the lower average handicap final match Chris Thomas defeated top qualifier Sun Kim, Flushing, NY 235-219 to earn the $725 top prize. Sun earned $400 for 2nd place. In the higher average handicap final match top seed Al Green defeated Max Thomas, Babylon, NY 235-182 to earn the $725 top prize. Max earned $400 for 2nd place. In the scratch final match #1 seed Pete Scavuzzo defeated Sun Kim 208-174 to earn the $450 top prize. Sun earned $300 for his runner-up finish.

Scoring on the AMF Wantagh house shot was normal. With 1 in 4 cashing featured in each prize list the cuts were 945 in the higher average event, 965 in the lower average event, and 903 in the scratch event. A total of 23 cashers, out of 97 entries, shared a $5,810 payout. The side action paid out an additional $7,765. Kenny Bruce was the winner of the Storm Ball raffle. Total payout for the AMF Wantagh event was $15,575.
