JIMMIE LUVERT, AVI PERSAUD, & KIM SWANSON RVC TRIO CHAMPIONS

Rockville Centre, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Trio’s Handicap Challenge at Rockville Centre Lanes. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 2,920 worth $2,100, was Jimmie Luvert, Freeport, NY, Avi Persaud, S. Ozone Park, NY, and Kim Swanson, Farmingdale, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 2,827 total, and earning $1,200, was the team of Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ, Danny Yi, Engelwood, NJ, and Soojin Yi, Bayside, NY.

The LIGBT had not run an event at RVC Lanes in many years but it was great to return to this popular center. Finishing in third place with a 2813 worth $1,050 was the team of Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY, Beverly Parker, Brooklyn, NY and Gregory Welch, Brooklyn, NY. Rounding out the top 4 with a 2,802 total, and earning $900, was the team of Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY, Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY, and Mike Simeone, Lindenhurst, NY.

In addition to the team event, a separate singles competition was offered. The singles champion was Dexter Sapp, Valley Stream, NY with a 998 four-game series worth $500. Finishing in 2nd was Calvin Nottingham, Deer Park, NY with a 991 series worth $350. Rounding out the top 3 was Tim Smith Jr., W. Islip, NY with a 990 worth $250. A total of 46 bowlers entered the optional singles which paid out a $1,600 prize fund to the top 8 bowlers. It took a 966 series to cash.

The Trio’s competition drew 23 teams generating a prize fund of $5,250. The side action paid out an additional $3,720 bringing the total payout, including the optional singles event, to $10,570.  

LIGBT’s next event is a house shot singles tournament at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, October 16th (1pm.) This 4-game event features 3 separate prize funds: scratch, handicap 49 & under, and handicap 50+. The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Billvee Electric, and CLS Custom Upholsterers.

ANDREW MIENKIEWICZ WINS $1,000 AT HERRILL LANES

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, kicked off its new Sport Shot Series at Herrill Lanes. Andrew Mienkiewicz, a 39-year-old right-hander from Dix Hills, NY won his 5th LIGBT title worth $1,000. Andrew won his last LIGBT sport shot event 5-years ago also at Herrill Lanes.

Andrew’s title run started with a squad leading 771 series at noon that earned him a spot in the final shootout. In the final match Andrew defeated 2nd place finisher Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY 253-249 by doubling in the final frame. While Eddie earned $500 as the runner-up, finishing in third was Joe Evers, Islip Terrace, NY with a 232 worth $300. Finishing in 4th place was Paige Sztabnik, Cold Spring Harbor, NY with a 221 worth $250. Rounding out the top 5 was the 2pm squad leader (756) Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY earning $200 with a 203.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 63 entries, paid out $3,330 in prize money, and had 17 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $2,590 bringing the total event payout to $5,920. Scores to cash on the 39-foot Middle Road pattern were 686 at noon and 692 at 2pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Paige Sztabnik with a 1,398.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a special Trio’s Challenge at RVC Lanes, Saturday, October 1st at 10am. Top prize will pay $3,000 with 30 teams and the entry fee is just $100 per bowler. JOE CERUZZI WINS $1,500 AT AMF E. MEADOW IN A RECORD-BREAKING PERFORMANCE

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, kicked off its new House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow with a singles tournament featuring 3 separate prize lists. Joe Ceruzzi, Rye Brook, NY won both the scratch and handicap events in a record-breaking performance. Joe averaged an amazing 273 for six games earning a total of $1,500 and his first LIGBT title.

In the final handicap shootout, where the top 2 from the 49 and under and senior divisions combine to bowl a 1-game match, Joe defeated 2nd place finisher JoJo Alcantara, Flushing, NY 278-258 to earn the $1,000 top prize. While JoJo earned $500, finishing in third place was Carolyn Willis, Bethpage, NY with a 230 worth $350. Rounding out the top 4 was senior bowler Carmelo Carbonara, Beechhurst, NY with a 192 earning him $250. All 4 shootout participants were looking for their first LIGBT title.

The scratch event, which paid out a prize fund based on 5-game totals, Joe Ceruzzi dominated with an incredible 191 pin victory, and an amazing 877 for his first 3 games! Joe’s 5-game total was 1359 (272 average) worth $500 while his closest competitor, Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY earned $300 with an 1168 series. Finishing in third place, and earning $250, was Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY with an 1125 series.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #1 at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 92 entries, paid out $5,635 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,330 bringing the total day’s payout to $9,965. Scores to cash on the Stone Street pattern were 1134 in the under division, 1098 in the senior division, and 1104 in the scratch event.

JAE YI IS THE $2,000 LABOR DAY WEEKEND MAJOR CHAMPION!

Garden City, NY: Jae Yi, a 48-year-old custom broker from Flushing, NY won the LIGBT Labor Day Weekend Major, sponsored by Storm, at AMF Garden City. Jae, won his third LIGBT title by defeating Joe Ceruzzi, Rye Brook, NY 277-269 to earn the $2,000 top prize. While Joe earned $1,000 for second, finishing in third was Aimee Matias, Staten Island, NY with a 234 worth $600. Rounding out the top 5 was Joe Scianna, Ronkonkoma, NY who cashed in both 4th and 5th place as a dual finalist (senior and scratch) earning a total of $700.

The Labor Day Weekend Major final shootout was a great match. Aimee was getting the most handicap, 54 pins, while Jae was getting 40 pins. Both Joes were bowling scratch so they started behind. Joe Ceruzzi bowled an incredible 269 scratch but Jae threw 4 consecutive strikes starting in the 8th frame to grab the lead and never looked back. Aimee started the match slowly with 3 opens in her first 6 frames but finished strong to secure third. Joe Scianna started striking too late and had to settle for the last 2 spots.

The LIGBT Summer Major featured 3 different divisions; scratch, 49 & under handicap, 50 & over handicap. There were 5 qualifying squads for each event with 1 in 4 each squad cashing and 1 in 8 advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100. Each division had their own elimination finals with the remaining 2 from each handicap division, and the last remaining scratch bowler, combining to compete in a 1-game final shootout for the top prizes.

The LIGBT Summer Major drew a record-breaking crowd of 345 total entries (including the desperado), cashed 92 spots, and had an event payout of $13,735.  The side action paid out an additional $13,630 bringing the total event payout to $27,365. Cut scores on the house shot ranged from a high of 735 to a low of 665. Pierce Field, Shirley, NY shot the only perfect game of the tournament.

DARRYL FREEMAN WINS TITLE #3

New Hyde Park, NY:   Darryl Freeman, a 61-year-old fitness specialist from Forest Hills, NY, won LIGBT’s latest sport shot tournament at Herrill Lanes. Darryl won the $1,100 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Robert Aiello, Oceanside, NY 248-229. While Robert earned $700 for his runner-up position, finishing in third place, with a 217, was Eddie Walker, Washington D.C. earning $500. Rounding out the top 4 was Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with a 197 earning him $350.

The final shootout was very competitive as the winner wasn’t decided until the tenth frame. Midway through the final game the top 3 were separated by just 6 pins. Darryl took the lead with a triple starting in frame 6, while Robert doubled/spared in the same frames. Darryl locked up his third LIGBT title by striking out in the tenth frame leaving Robert 19 pins behind. Eddie stayed close the entire match but opened in the 10th to settle for third place. Darryl McDuffie, who was giving everyone pins, could not string early strikes and finished in 4th place.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew an incredible crowd of 121 entries, paid out $6,070 in prize money, and had 31 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,360 bringing the total event payout to $13,430. Cut scores to cash on the 42-foot Mark Roth pattern were 692 at 1pm and 693 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Sun Kim, Flushing, NY with a 1383. Toronto McCain, Jamaica, NY won the Storm Ball raffle.

LIGBT’s next tournament is our annual Labor Day Weekend Major at AMF Garden City; Friday, September 2nd and Sunday, September 4th. ANDREW MIENKIEWICZ, JORDAN OCKIMEY, & TODD DAVID AMF SYOSSET HOUSE SHOT CHAMPIONS

Syosset, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 4-game house shot tournament featuring 3 different prize funds. The winner of the 49 & under handicap event was Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY. The winner of the 50 & over handicap tournament was Todd David, Staten Island, NY. The scratch champion was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY. This was Jordan’s and Todd’s first LIGBT title while Andrew has won multiple times.

Jordan’s road to the 49 & under title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1005. That was good enough for 2nd place, and with the top 4 advancing, Jordan had a shot at his first LIGBT title. Jordan shot a fine 271 handicap game to earn the $550 top prize. Finishing in 2nd place, just 11 pins behind, was Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY with a 260 worth $300. In third place was the squad leader, Steven J. Smith, New York, NY shooting a 231 worth $225. Rounding out the top 4 was Hubert Stowe, Wyandanch, NY with a 219 worth $200.   

Todd David is a great front runner. He led the senior qualifying with a 1002 handicap series. In the final shootout Todd started strong and never looked back finishing with a 272 worth $700. Finishing in second, with a 229, was Bill Verni, W. Babylon, NY earning $350. Third went to Michael Yu, Brooklyn, NY, with a 218 worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was Antoine Thurston, New York, NY with a 206 worth $200.

The scratch event was won by Andrew Mienkiewicz with an 899 series worth $400. Finishing in 2nd place was Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY with an 869 worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Wesley Grant, Uniondale, NY with an 865 worth $125.

The LIGBT house shot tournament at AMF Syosset drew a field of 78 entries, paid out $4,625 in prize money, and had 19 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $3,095 bringing the total day’s payout to $7,720. Cut scores to cash on the house shot were 911 in the under division, 907 in the senior division, and 865 in the scratch event. Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY won the Storm ball raffle.

DAVID CINCOTTA, GEORGE MARKOTSIS, & TIMMY SIMTH JR. $3,000 TRIO CHAMPIONS

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its fourth Trio’s Handicap Challenge at AMF E. Meadow and had its largest field ever. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 2,968 worth $3,000, was Dave Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY, George Markotsis, Deer Park, NY and Timmy Smith Jr., W. Islip, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 2,952 total, and earning $1,650, was the team of Vernon Mackey, Brooklyn, NY, Ray Tang, College Point, NY, and Michael Yu, Brooklyn, NY.

The AMF E. Meadow house shot produced some very fine scores. Finishing in third place with a 2,943 worth $900 was the team of Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY, Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY and Wynford Walters, Brooklyn, NY. Rounding out the top 4, earning $600 was the team of Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY, Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY and Stephen Russell, Central Islip, NY. The top 6 teams cashed (1 in 6) as it took a 2,805 total to get to the cashing window.   

In addition to the team event, a separate singles competition was offered. The singles champion was Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY with a 1091 four-game series worth $500. Finishing in 2nd was George Markotsis with a 1006 series worth $250. Rounding out the top 3 was Derrick Griffin, Valley Stream, NY with a 998 worth $200. A total of 71 bowlers entered the optional singles which paid 18 spots. It took a 946 series to cash. The entire $30 entry fee was returned as prize money with the total prize fund paying out $2,135.

The Trio’s competition drew a record 37 teams (111 bowlers) generating a team prize fund of $6,900. The side action paid out an additional $6,130 bringing the day’s total payout, including the optional singles event, to $15,165. Debra Newton, Brooklyn, NY won a new Storm ball in the bowling ball raffle.

ROBERT AIELLO WINS $1,500 AT AMF BABYLON

Babylon, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a special drop your low game sport shot tournament called: The First Pair Shootout sponsored by Bill Verni of Bilvee Electric. Robert Aiello, Oceanside, NY won his 2nd LIGBT title (first one in 7 years) by defeating Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY, 250-237. Robert earned $1,500 for his victory while Max took home $800 for second place. Finishing in third was Paul Gonzalez, Selden, NY with a 189 worth $500. Rounding out the top 4 was Joe Ferraiolo, W. Islip, NY with a 188 worth $300.

The First Pair Shootout started with 2 divisions, 49 & under/50+ with each group bowling 4 games and dropping their lowest game to determined prize fund position. The top 2 from each division advanced to a 1-game shootout. Additional cashers were paid using a 1 in 4 ratio.

The final shootout was dominated early by Max as he struck his first 4 out of 5 frames. Robert opened in his first frame but came back with a string of strikes to stay close to Max. When Max opened in the 8th frame all Robert had to do was mark in the 10th frame to secure the title. Paul bowled well but couldn’t string strikes and finished in third place. Joe bowled well to qualify but had trouble in the shootout and finished fourth.

The LIGBT sport shot event at AMF Babylon drew a field of 83 entries (7 short of a sellout), paid out a $5,650 prize fund, and had 23 bowlers cash. The side action paid out an additional $4,790 bringing the total event payout to $10,440. The cut scores to cash on the “Broadway” pattern were 695 in the under division and 723 in the senior division. Maniram Basdeo and Glenn DeGennaro won Storm balls in a special raffle.
