Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 4-game house shot tournament featuring 3 different prize funds. The winner of the 49 & under handicap event was Valerie DeLillo, N. Massapequa, NY. The winner of the 50 & over handicap tournament was Ed Passaro, Hicksville, NY. The scratch champion was Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY. This was Valerie’s first LIGBT victory while Ed and Andrew are now multi-title champions.

Valerie’s road to the 49 & under title started with a squad leading 4-game series of 1086. Valerie joined the other top 3 finishers to compete in a 1-game handicap shootout. On the strength of a triple in the middle of the match Valerie finished with a 260 to defeat 2^nd place finisher Tom Catalano, N. Babylon, NY by 20 pins. Valerie earned $600 while Tom took home $350. Finishing in third with a 220 was Charlie Rembert, Floral Park, NY earning $300. Fourth place went to Alex Kuhne, Bethpage, NY with a 211 worth $250.

The senior shootout featured an incredible finish. Ed had a 5-pin lead going into the final frame but when he missed a spare, he thought he lost. Shockingly, everyone else opened in the 10^th frame giving Ed the $700 title. While Ed finished with a 244, Todd David, Staten Island, NY finished in 2^nd place with a 241 worth $350. Third place went to Greg Welch, Brooklyn, NY, the senior squad leader (1037), with a 227 earning him $350. Rounding out the top 4 was Mitch Benov, Seaford, NY with a 223 worth $250.

The scratch event was won by Andrew Mienkiewicz with a 940 series worth $450. Finishing in 2^nd place was Tom Catalano with a 933 worth $280. Rounding out the top 3 was Alex Kuhne with an 899 worth $200. There was a total of 5 cashers but no finals in the scratch event.

The LIGBT house shot tournament at AMF Wantagh drew a field of 102 entries, paid out $6,000 in prize money, and had 25 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,200 bringing the total day’s payout to $10,200. Cut scores to cash on the house shot were 954 in the under division, 913 in the senior division, and 868 in the scratch event. There were no perfect games bowled at the event.

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 4-game house shot tournament featuring 3 different prize funds. The winner of the 49 & under handicap event was James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY.   The winner of the 50 & over handicap tournament was Allen Johnson, Jamaica, NY. The scratch champion was Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY.

James’ road to the 49 & under title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1009. The top 4 advanced to a 1-game handicap shootout with James defeating 2^nd place finisher Nick Rini, Wantagh, NY 275-241. James earned $400 while Nick earned $250. Finishing in 3^rd was the squad leader Damian Walsh, Mastic, NY with a 238. Damian also earned $250 since he was the squad leader and was guaranteed 2^nd place money. Rounding out the top 4 was Harry Park, Flushing, NY with a 200 worth $170.

Al’s road to the senior title started with a 4-game qualifying series of 1066. In the final shootout Al defeated Lenny Tortorici, Flushing, NY 256-226. Al earned $500 while Lenny took home $300. Finishing in 3^rd place with a 219 was Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY worth $250. Rounding out the top 4 was the senior squad leader Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY with a 217. Archie also earned $300 as he was guaranteed no less than 2^nd place money.

The scratch event was won by Archie Nabas with an 1104 series worth $330. Finishing in 2^nd place was Nick Rini with a 982 worth $200. Both Archie and Nick bowled perfect games in qualifying.

The LIGBT house shot event at AMF E. Meadow drew a field of 56 entries, paid out $3,425 in prize money, and had 15 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $2,155 bringing the total event payout to $5,580. The cut scores to cash on the house shot were 966 in the under division, 962 in the senior division, and 982 in the scratch event.

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Doubles Tournament at AMF Garden City Father’s Day weekend. The winning doubles team, with a 4-game total of 2,062 worth $1,500, were first time champions Mark Ferrara, Farmingdale, NY and Nick Anselmi, Lindenhurst, NY. Finishing in 2^nd place with a 1,984 total, and earning $1,000, were partners Marvin Silva and DJ Mateo, both from Franklin Square, NY. Rounding out the top 3 was the doubles team of Brian Becktold, Glen Cove, NY and Charlie Rembert, Floral Park, NY with a 1954 series worth $700.

The AMF Garden City doubles event attracted 53 teams and paid out a prize fund of $5,190. Nine teams cashed, for a minimum of $200, with 1,914 the cashing score. The side action paid out an additional $2,695. Total payout for the day was $7,885.

The LIGBT’s next event is special house shot event at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, June 26th. This event will feature 3 separate events and a 1 in 4 cashing ratio. New Hyde Park, NY:   Ryon Lee, a 28-year-old 2-handed bowler from Holbrook, NY, won LIGBT’s latest sport shot tournament at Herrill Lanes. Ryon won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2^nd place finisher Piage Sztabnik, Cold Spring Harbor, NY 285-230. While Paige earned $600 for her runner-up position, finishing in third place, with a 229, was Gabe Elie-Pierre, New York, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Andre McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with a 206 earning him $300.

The final shootout was dominated early with Ryon striking in his first 5 out of 6 frames. Gabe stayed close, and when Ryon opened in the 7^th frame while Gabe doubled, the lead was cut to 6 pins. But Gabe’s 9^th frame open, and Ryon’s 5 bagger to finish the game, sealed Ryon’s second LIGBT title. Paige stayed in the match and managed to grab 2^nd place when she doubled in the 9^th and 10^th frames. Andre started with a double and finished with 3 spares but 5 consecutive opens in the middle of his game clinched his fourth-place finish.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 103 entries, paid out $5,160 in prize money, and had 26 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,900 bringing the total event payout to $10,060. Cut scores to cash on the 40-foot Sunset Strip pattern were 670 at 1pm and 669 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY with a 1343.

Garden City, NY: Kevin Son, a 21-year-old two-handed bowler from Palisades, NJ, won the LIGBT Summer Major at AMF Garden City in a shocking finish. Kevin, won his first LIGBT title by defeating Dany Nelson, Bronx, NY 254-247 to earn the $2,000 top prize. While Dany earned $1,000 for second, finishing in third was Chris Williams, Bronx, NY with a 220 worth $500. Rounding out the top 5 was 4^th place finisher Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY with a 215 worth $400 and 5^th place finisher Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY with a 213 worth $300.

The Spring Major final shootout was exciting with an incredible finish. Dany had a 28-pin lead with 2 frames to go, but when Kevin finished with 4 strikes, and Dany missed a one pin spare in the tenth, Kevin had a surprising seven-pin victory. Chris, who represented the scratch division, bowled well but his one open in the third frame was tough to overcome. Archie, a senior finalist, started with a triple but his one open and inability to string strikes gave him a 4^th place finish. Maniram, also from the senior division, seemed confused early but finished with two doubles to settle for fifth place.

The LIGBT Summer Major featured 3 different divisions; scratch, 49 & under handicap, 50 & over handicap. There were 5 qualifying squads for each event with 1 in 4 each squad cashing and 1 in 8 advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100. Each division had their own elimination finals with the remaining 2 from each handicap division, and the last remaining scratch bowler, combining to compete in a 1-game final shootout for the top prizes.

The LIGBT Summer Major drew a total of 269 entries (including the desperado), cashed 73 spots, and had an event payout of $11,350 (with over $1,000 added by the LIGBT.) The side action paid out an additional $11,230 bringing the total event payout to $22,580. Cut scores on the house shot ranged from a high of 749 to a low of 670. Archie Nabas and Michael Williams, Laurelton, NY shot the only two perfect games of the tournament.

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran the inaugural LIGBT Championships at AMF E. Meadow and crowned 7 champions over this special weekend. The Singles Champion was Curtis Hetmeyer, Brooklyn, NY earning $1,000. The Doubles Champions were Chondite Faison, New York, NY and Kevin Myree, Brooklyn, NY sharing the $2,000 top prize. The Team Champions were Andre McDuffie, Charlie Rembert, Jaleesa Taylor, and Terrence Taylor. All 4 bowlers shared the $1,800 top prize.

The first event of Championship weekend was the singles event. Curtis Hetmeyer shot an 819 three game handicap series to take the title. Finishing in 2^nd place with an 811 was Colin Nosworthy, St. Albans, NY earning $500. Third place went to James Gilmore, Rosedale, NY with an 803 worth $300. It took a 766 series to cash in the $2,905 prize fund.  

The second event of the weekend, also running on Saturday, was the doubles event. A total of 80 teams competed for a $6,500 prize fund. Chondite Faison and Kevin Myree shot a 1626 series to take the $2,000 doubles title. Finishing in second place, with a 1593 total, was Monique Compton, Bronx, NY and Charlie Rembert earning $1,000. Rounding out the top 3 was the team of Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY and Charlie Rembert with a 1590 worth $500. It took a 1520 series to cash in the 14-team prize list.

On Sunday, the 4-person team event took place with 14 teams vying for the $3,100 prize fund. The winning team of Charlie Rembert, Andre McDuffie, Jaleesa Taylor, and Terrance Taylor shot a 3,118 to earn the $1,800 top prize. Finishing in 2^nd place was the team of Keven Myree, Colin Nosworthy, Eugene Patterson III, and Jardon Scott. They shot a 3,069 total to earn $900. Rounding out the top 3 was the team of Julio Arnold, Gabe and Lorena Elie-Pierre, and Curtis Hetmeyer shooting a 2,998 worth $400. 

The LIGBT 1^st annual Championships attracted a total of 210 entries and paid out $12,505 in prize money. The side action paid out an additional $8,750 bringing the total weekend payout to $21,255. The 3 tournaments saw 61 bowlers cash.

In addition to the 3 events the LIGBT, and with the support of Ace Mitchell and Storm, the top five 9-game totals won a Storm ball. The 5 ball winners were: Charlie Rembert (2461), Colin Nosworthy (2437), Kevin Myree (2395), Valerie DeLillo (2349) and Arvin Ong (2345.)  

LIGBT’s next event is our Summer Major, May 27 & 29 at AMF Garden City. This 2-day event features 5 squads, 3 separate divisions, and a $2,000 top prize. Best of all each squad entry fee is only $65!  The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Knockout Ball Cleaner, Billvee Electric, and Ace Mitchell.

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a special event at AMF E. Meadow called The Dual Challenge. The tournament, which featured 2 separate events crowned 2 champions: James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY won the 3-game sweeper and Lou Barbera, N. Bellmore, NY won the Bracket Challenge. Both champions won $750 for their victory.

The 3-game sweeper was the first event bowled. James dominated the tournament with a fine 881 handicap series. Finishing in second place was Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY with an 834 worth $425. Rounding out the top 3 was Nyles Davis, Bronx, NY with an 824 worth $250. The sweeper prize fund paid out $2,895 to 14 different cashers (1 in 4.) It took a 762 series to cash.

The 2^nd event was the Bracket Challenge which randomly placed all entrants into an 8-person bracket. Bowlers winning their bracket were guaranteed $100 while those finishing in 2^nd in each bracket earned $50. After 3 matches the 7 bracket champions bowled a random opponent in a 1-game match to determine who advanced to the final shootout. 

Lou dominated the final shootout putting all of his shots in the 1-3 pocket. A stubborn 10 pin in the 7^th frame cost him perfection. Lou finished with a 309-handicap game (278 scratch) to defeat 2^nd place finisher Dave Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY 309-282. While Dave earned $425, finishing in third place was Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY with a 266 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was last week’s champion, Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 257 worth $200.  The Bracket Challenge prize fund paid out $2,325 to 14 different bowlers.

The inaugural Dual Challenge drew a nice crowd of 55 entries, paid out 28 prizes (better than a 1 in 2 ratio) which totaled $5,220.  The side action paid out an additional $3,645 bringing the day’s total payout to $8,865. Scoring in both events was good on the house shot pattern.    

LIGBT’s next event is a 2-day tournament called the LIGBT Championships at AMF E. Meadow. This new event begins Saturday, May 14^th with a Singles/Doubles competition. The next day, Sunday, May 15^th, a 4-person team tournament will take place. New Hyde Park, NY:   Pak Wong, a 55-year-old U.S. postal worker, won LIGBT’s latest sport shot tournament at Herrill Lanes. This was Pak’s fifth LIGBT title in 10 years as an LIGBT member. Pak won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2^nd place finisher Guy Sereno, W. Hempstead, NY 264-234. While Guy earned $600 for his runner-up position, finishing in third place, with a 219, was Donald Eubanks, Elmsford, NY earning $400. Rounding out the top 4 was 14-year-old DJ Matteo with a 193 earning him a $300 scholarship.

The trick to winning a sport shot event is to avoid opens. Pak was the only bowler in the final shootout to throw a clean game. He also had two sets of triples which guided him to victory. Guy, who was giving everyone handicap, could not overcome Pak’s fine performance despite a late 5 timer. Donald and DJ bowled well but too many open frames doomed their title hopes.

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew a wonderful crowd of 97 entries, paid out $5,040 in prize money, and had 26 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $4,040 bringing the total event payout to $9,080. Cut scores to cash on the 41-foot Beaten Path pattern were 677 at 1pm and 695 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY with a 1,387.
