FREE BowlersMAP at Bowl Long Island

Posted On: January 29, 2009

There will be 48 five minute slots available for videotaping. The first 48 members to register on-site for the Bowl Long Island event and want to be videotaped will be invited to take the free video lesson. Tournament check-in will begin at 9:45am with BowlersMAP sessions starting at 10am. There will be two BowlersMAP stations that will run for two hours. At noon the stations will be closed so the lanes can be re-oiled for the tournament.

The free practice session, normally 1 hour, will be expanded to 2-1/2 hours; 10am through 12:30pm. Columbia 300 will be at the practice session running a Demo Day for their just released Power Swing high-performance ball.

There will be 3 Silver Level Coaches on-site running BowlersMAP. Two of the coaches will be doing the videotaping; Frank Moran and Nick Attardi. Once the 5-minute snapshot of your game is completed you will take the video to be analyzed to Tom Laskow, former IBPSIA President, current IBPSIA Board Member, and Silver Level Coach.

The Bowl Long Island event has the potential to be the first LIGBT event to fill up. Bowl Long Island has 40 brand new lanes and scoring thus limiting the field. Every LIGBT event has had more entries than the previous one. At our last event at AMF Babylon Lanes we had 113 entries. The maximum at Bowl Long Island will be around 128 bowlers.

We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, February 15th at Bowl Long Island. If you have any questions please feel free to call the tournament office and speak with Linda; 1.877.900.6464.

Posted On: January 19, 2009

Syosset, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) traveled to North Levittown Lanes for its third event of the year. A total of 94 bowlers, largest ever for the Tour, competed for over $9,000 in prizes. The winner of the scratch event was Bob Brust, pro shop owner at South Levittown Lanes, earning $1,000 and the 205 & under champion was “Big” Sid Downing, of Brooklyn winning $350.

Bob’s road to his title began with an 1177 qualifying series (235 average) that positioned him 6th after his 5 games. Leading qualifier was Brian Soto of Kew Gardens who shot a fine 1262 series  (252 average) which earned him 2 byes. High senior qualifier also earning two byes, was Bruce Nielsen of Levittown rolling an 1164 series (233 average.)

In Round 1 of the finals Bob defeated Super Senior Steve Sckalor (1120) of Massapequa 215-213. Bob won his second round match by defeating Darren Barlow of Levittown (1167) 237-214. In the semi-finals Bob continued his winning ways be beating the highest senior qualifier, Bruce Nielsen 239-214.

Those who know Bob Brust well know he always has to make a statement and in the final shootout he did just that by shooting an almost perfect 299 game. A 10-pin cost Bob his perfection but he was happy to “settle” for the $1,000 top prize. The other shootout finalists were second place finisher Brian Ziesig of Levittown (1227) earning $650 and Brian Soto, the top qualifier winning $400.

The 205 & under event attracted 33 entries and after the 3-games of qualifying the leader was Drew Amitrano (162 average) of Huntington Station who rolled a 596 scratch series (719 with handicap and bonus pins). Drew earned 2-byes in the finals while the second high qualifier, Angelo DeSena of Brooklyn earned 1-bye with his 705 (with handicap and bonus pins) qualifying series

Quietly sitting in 6th place after qualifying was Sidney Downing a 200 average bowler from Brooklyn. Sid rolled scratch games of 213-211-204 and with his 12 pin handicap had a total of 640. To win the 205 & under title Sid had to win 3 matches. In Round 1 Sid defeated Mike Scarangella (657) of Shirley 214-131. In Round 2 Sid’s victory came against the second high qualifier Angelo DeSena (705) 206-187.

Sid’s final challenge to win the 205 & under title was in the 3-person Shootout. He had to bowl against the top qualifier Drew Armitrano and Preston Cheeks (656) of Brooklyn. Sid took no prisoners as he defeated both of his opponents by rolling a 208 game (204 scratch). Sid’s victory earned him $350 plus a beautiful trophy. Finishing in second and earning $200 was Preston Cheeks with a 197 game (170 scratch) and the third place finisher was Drew 187 total (149 scratch) who earned $150.

The next LIGBT event will be held at AMF Babylon Bowl on Sunday, January 18th. January 18, 2009

Babylon, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) traveled to AMF Babylon Lanes for its fourth event of the year. A total of 113 bowlers braved up to 3 inches of snow to compete for over $10,000 in prizes. The winner of the scratch event was senior bowler John Frank of Baldwin, NY earning $1,000 and the 205 & under champion was Preston Cheeks of Brooklyn winning $400.

The scratch event, which had 70 bowlers, was total dominated by John Frank from start to finish. John, who was bowling in the senior division was the leading qualifier with a 1229 5-game series. John averaged closed to 246 on a condition that did not produce high scores. In fact, to make the finals it only took a 201 average.

John received three byes in the finals and only had to bowl 2 matches to win his title. In his first match John defeated Alex Cavagnaro of Lindenhurst (1,107 series) 230 to 201. In the championship match John defeated Chun Bae of Cedarhurst (1,112 series) 259 to 216. While John earned $1,000 for his title Chun took home a respectable $600 for his runner-up finish.

The 205 and under tournament began with 43 entries. The 3 game qualifying leader was James Montuori of Bayshore shooting a 593 scratch series and a 701 with handicap and bonus pins. The eventual champion, Preston Cheeks, road to his title began with a 556 scratch series (637 total) placing him 7th after qualifying.

Preston had to win 4 consecutive matches to earn his first place finish. In match one Preston defeated Jim Walsh (Glen Cove, NY) 179-164. In match 2 Preston defeated the 2nd high qualifier, Valerie Amirtano (Huntington St., NY) 214-197. In the semi-finals Preston had his closest match defeating the top qualifier James Montuori 189-183. The title match was against bowling tournament veteran Redy Bujaoan (Massapequa, NY), who despite being exhausted, bowled a respectable 209 to Preston’s fine 237 game. Preston earned $400 for his days work while Redy took home $250 for his second place finish.

After only four events the LIGBT now boasts over 200 members. Every event has seen an increase in entries and prize money. The next LIGBT event will be held at Bowl Long Island (formerly Patchogue 40 Lanes) on Sunday, February 15th. All LIGBT events begin with a free 1 hour practice session at 11:30am. LIGBT Announces New Format

Posted On: November 20, 2008

November 17, 2009

Syosset, NY: Pinacle Events, owners of the Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) which is sponsored by Columbia 300, announced today one in four bowlers will now advance to the finals at each event. This change doubles the number of bowlers advancing to the finals. The guaranteed top prizes of $1,000 in the scratch event regardless of entries, and $500 first place with only 50 entries in the 205 & under handicap event remains the same.

The goal with the increased number of finalists is to give as many bowlers as possible the chance at winning the top prizes. In addition, the LIGBT wants to maximize the number of entrants that have a chance to bowl in match play. It’s definitely everyone’s goal to make the finals so why not allow more people to achieve their goal each month.

In addition to more finalists the LIGBT is also adding more byes to the finals. In the scratch event the top two 49 and unders and the top 2 seniors will earn byes. The highest qualifier from each division will earn 2 byes and the 2nd highest qualifier will earn 1 bye. In the 205 & under handicap event the top 2 series will also receive byes with the top qualifier earning 2 byes and the 2nd highest earning 1 bye. The byes protect the best bowlers of the day from being eliminated early in the finals. All of the new formats, prize funds, and rules are now posted at ligbtour.com.

The LIGBT is moving up the time the 1-hour free practice session begins. This exclusive free practice, for paid entrants only, will now begin at 11:30am (instead of noon) and finish at 12:30pm. This change will allow enough time to strip and re-oil the lanes and to start qualifying at 1pm. With more bowlers making the finals it is important to start the tournament on time.

The LIGBT’s next event is December 7th at North Levittown Lanes. Columbia 300 will be running a free “Demo Day” during the 1 hour practice session. All bowlers attending the N. Levittown event will receive a special holiday gift courtesy of the LIGBT and its sponsors. For more information on the LIGBT please visit www.ligbtour.com or call the tournament hotline at 1.877.900.6464.

Marc Bieler & Cynthia Guarino LIGBT Syosset Champions

Posted On: November 09, 2008

November 9, 2008

Syosset, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) traveled to AMF Syosset Lanes for its second event of the year. A total of 81 bowlers competed for over $5,000 in prizes. The winner of the scratch event was Marc Bieler, a teacher from Massapequa, NY, earning $1,000 and the 205 & under champion was Cynthia Guarino, of Elmont, NY winning $350.

Marc’s road to his title began with a 1092 qualifying series (218 average) that positioned him 3rd after his 5 games. Leading qualifier was Brian Ziesig of Levittown who shot a fine 1142 series (228 average.) High senior qualifier, for the second straight tournament was Mike Dioguardo of Patchogue rolling a 1045 series (209 average.)

In round 1 of the finals Marc defeated Brian Soto (Kew Gardens) 202-171 and in round 2 he defeated Brian Ziesig 202-195. To become the LIGBT scratch champion Marc shot an incredible 241 game in the final shootout defeating Mike Dioguardo (210) and Bill Beck of Ronkonkoma, NY (189). Marc earned $1,000 for his title while Mike took home $600 and Bill won $400.

Cynthia’s march to her title started by finishing second in qualifying with a 613 series (477 scratch + 126 handicap + 10 bonus pins). The qualifying leader was last months champion, Tom Colon, a warehouse manager from N. Massapequa, who shot a 646 series (556 scratch + 90 pins handicap). The third bowler in the finals was Gale Calca, a bowling manager from Elmont, NY who qualified with a 608 series (439 scratch + 159 handicap + 10 bonus pins). To earn the $350 top prize Cynthia shot a 257 game (215 scratch) defeating both Gale 222 - $200 (169 scratch) and Tom 173 - $150 (143 scratch).

In addition to the finalists in the 205 & under event there were additional prizes paid using a 1 in 4 cashing ratio. The low to cash was 594 (including handicap and bonus pins) which was shot by Morris Jackson of Massapequa. A bowler earns bonus pins when they don’t cash in a previous LIGBT event.

The Kegel pattern featured at AMF Syosset Lanes was the 45 foot Route 66 condition. This is the longest pattern of the four used by The LIGBT. Compared to the first LIGBT event at AMF Babylon the scores were much lower. It took a 216 average to advance to the finals and a 205 average to cash in the scratch division. In the 205 & under group the cut score to the finals was a 201 average including handicap and the cashing cut was only 596 with handicap.

The next LIGBT event will be held at North Levittown Lanes on Sunday, December 7th. Columbia 300 will be doing a Demo Day during the one hour practice session prior to qualifying. In addition, all LIGBT members attending the N. Levittown event will receive a special holiday gift package from the tournament sponsors. For additional LIGBT information please visit www.ligbtour.com or call our tournament hotline; 1.877.900.6464.
