MICHAEL BAGNATO LOVES HOME COOKING!

Farmingdale, NY:  Michael Bagnato, a house bowler from Farmingdale Lanes, always said he would destroy all competitors if the LIGBT ran a league shot event at his home bowling center. Michael’s boasting was no lie as he won his first LIGBT title and the $1,000 top prize with a very clutch performance. Michael, who is from Lindenhurst, NY marked in all 10 frames to shoot a 255 to win by 4 pins.

The final shootout was a great match with an exciting finish. Arnold Yuen, a new member from Flushing, NY would have won his first LIGBT with a double in the tenth but only threw the first strike and had to settle for second place with a 251 worth $600. Frank O’Mara, Babylon, NY also bowled great but had 2 splits which caused him to finish in third place with a 225 worth $300.

The Farmingdale Lanes tournament drew a great crowd of 145 entries, advanced 27 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $5,200. The house shot tournament generated the expected high cut scores: 804 in the 1pm squad and 797 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Fermin Diaz, New York, NY with an 849 in the 3pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is at AMF East Meadow on Sunday, March 29th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500 with 1 in 6 each squad making the finals and earning a minimum of $60. ROB LONGIARU WINS LIGBT WINTER MAJOR

W. Babylon, NY:  Rob Longiaru, a Biologist from Seaford, NY, won the $3,000 top prize at LIGBT’s 2015 Winter Major at AMF Babylon. Rob bowled a “clean” 224 handicap game to defeat second place finisher Rich Patson, Lindenhurst, NY by 8 pins. Rich earned $1,500 with his 216 while Abel David, Franklin Square, NY finished third with a 183 worth $750.

The Winter Major Shootout was not decided until the final frame. Consistency won this match as Rob filled every frame with 8 spares and 2 strikes. Richie had his only open in the 8th frame but could have still won the title with a double in the tenth. Richie struck on the first ball but got a 6 count on his second shot to settle for second place. Abel could not get comfortable on the lanes and had 5 opens forcing him to settle for third place.

The LIGBT Winter Major drew a 2-day record crowd of 339 entries, advanced 60 bowlers to the finals, and paid out over $15,000. Eight Brunswick Fortera Intriques were won by: Redy Bugaoan, Terry Cooper, Angelo DeSena, Rob Longiaru, Vinny LoRe, Alex Padmore, Mike Simeone, and George Williams. Cut scores were as low as 717 and as high as 762. High handicap series for the 5 squads was shot by Abel David in the Sunday 3pm squad with an 871.

COURTNEY HARRIS GRABS HIS SECOND LIGBT TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:  It took Courtney Harris over 4 years but he finally captured his second LIGBT title. Courtney earned the $1,000 top prize by defeating a record crowd of 173 entries at Herrill Lanes. Courtney, a 38 year old currency trader from New York City, shot a 253 handicap game to crush the other 3 shootout competitors.

Courtney’s 48 pin victory was not surprising as he bowled the highest scratch game in the shootout, 212, and was getting the most handicap. Finishing second and earning $600 was 4-time LIGBT Champion Cary Fishman, NYC, with a 205. Third place went to Rob Longiaru, Seaford, NY earning $400 with a 192. Jack Kampf, an LIGBT Marathon Champion from Levittown, NY, took fourth place with a 167 worth $300.

The Herrill Lanes tournament drew an incredible crowd of 173 entries, advanced 29 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $6,060. WTBA’s “Atlanta” pattern (38 feet) was used resulting in low scoring; the cut was 677 in the 1pm squad and 707 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Deone Taitte, Amityville, NY with a 759 in the 3pm squad.

CARL WORLEY WINS LIGBT SUPER BOWL MARATHON

W. Babylon, NY:  The LIGBT ran its first Super Bowl Marathon and attracted a great crowd of 91 entries. At the end of the 5-game handicap event Carl Worley, who works in the military and is from Staten Island, took home the $1,000 top prize with a 1383 handicap series. Finishing in second, 43 pins behind Carl, was the New Year’s Day Marathon champion Mike Simeone, Wantagh, NY, with a 1340 series worth $600. Cameron Potts, Babylon, NY earned $400 with his third place finish shooting a 1339 series.

The Super Bowl Marathon had a different leader after each game. Carl took the lead in the last game with a perfect 300 game. Carl also won a Brunswick high performance ball by shooting the high game in game 5. Other ball winners included; Scott Kampf, Ferrill McNeil, Rich Frost, and Wesley Marquez.

The Super Bowl Marathon drew a fantastic crowd of 91 entries, paid 18 spots and distributed a prize fund of $4,370. A modified house shot was used and scoring was high as it took a 1266 (for 5 games) to cash. The side action was huge as over $7,000 was paid out.   

LIGBT’s next tournament is at Herrill Lanes on Sunday, February 22nd. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 6 each squad advances to the finals and will cash for a minimum of $60. RICHIE RODRIQUEZ CAPTURE FIRST LIGBT TITLE

E. Meadow, NY:  Richie Rodriquez, a school bus driver from the Bronx, won his first LIGBT title worth $1,000. Richie shot a wonderful 270 handicap game to defeat second place finisher Clive Tobias (244), Wyandanch, NY, by 26 pins. Clive earned $550 for his runner-up position while Justin Kampf, Levittown, NY took home $350 as the third place finisher shooting 222. All three shootout finalist were looking for their first LIGBT title.

The final shootout was a competitive match through the first 5 frames but when Richie doubled in the 5th/6th frames he extended his small lead to 25 pins and never looked back. Richie was the only shootout finalist to throw a clean game making his victory even more impressive.  

The AMF East Meadow tournament drew an incredible crowd of 150 entries, advanced 26 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $5,200. Kegel’s 42 foot Autobahn pattern was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 715 in the 1pm squad and 714 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by So Young Chin, Whitestone, NY with an 848 in the 3pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 5-game handicap Marathon on Super Bowl Sunday (February 1st-Noon start) at AMF Babylon. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. ALEX PADMORE’S THIRD TITLE IS A “WILD” ONE

Wantagh, NY:  Alex Padmore, a left-handed bowler from Jamaica, NY, won his third LIGBT title and the $1,000 top prize at AMF Wantagh on Sunday. Alex, who didn’t make the finals in either squad, but was the “wildcard” entry in the finals with a 1399 six-game block, rolled a 259 to defeat second place finisher Bobby Wunsch, E. Meadow, NY by 4 pins. Bobby earned $500 while third place finisher George Williams, Jamaica, NY finished third with a 227 worth $300.

The 3 person shootout was a very close match as all three competitors were within 4 pins late in the competition. Alex through a double in the 6th & 7th and 9th & 10th frames to secure his victory. Bobby started the match with a 4 timer and finished with a triple but fell 4 pins short. George had a triple in the middle of the match to stay close but an open in the 9th frame was his demise.

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew a great crowd of 119 entries, advanced 21 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,100. Kegel’s 40 foot Abbey Road pattern was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 732 in the 1pm squad and 700 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Bobby Wunsch with a 787 series in the 1pm squad.

MIKE SIMEONE WINS NEW YEAR’S DAY MARATHON

W. Babylon, NY:  The LIGBT’s 3rd annual New Year’s Day Marathon attracted a huge crowd of 135 entries. At the end of the day Mike Simeone, a NYC police officer from Wantagh, NY, took home the $1,000 top prize with a 1367 handicap series. Finishing in second, 26 pins behind Mike, was Jerry Gioia, Franklin Square, NY with a 1341 worth $600. Scott Teitler, Patchogue, NY earned $400 with his third place finish shooting a 1325 series.

Mike Simeone led most of the day as he took the top spot after game 2 and never relinquished the lead. Carl Worley, Staten Island, NY, who finished in 5th place with a 1322, won $350 plus an additional $300 in pot winnings, by finishing second in three out of five games. Jerry Gioia bowled consistent all day but could never overtake Mike for the lead.

The New Year’s Day Marathon drew a fantastic crowd of 135 entries, paid 34 spots (1 in 4) and distributed a prize fund of $6,960. A modified house shot was used and scoring was moderately high as it took a 1208 (for 5 games) to cash. The side action was huge as over $9,000 was paid out. The New Year’s Day Marathon set an LIGBT one day payout record of more than $16,000!

DAVE PERRONE WINS LIGBT’S HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

Plainview, NY:  Dave Perrone, W. Babylon, NY, won his first LIGBT title at AMF Plainview. Dave defeated Sean Mott, Levittown, NY 238-223 in the final shootout. Dave earned $1,000 while Sean took home $600. Finishing third was 2-time champion Bobby Wunsch, E. Meadow, NY, who earned $400 with a 211.

Dave’s first victory in 38 LIGBT events started out slow as he opened in his first two frames while Bobby and Sean both threw triples in the first 5 frames. But Dave refused to give up and threw his own triple in frames 6 through 8 which propelled him to victory. Sean could have won his first LIGBT title if he had doubled in the final frame.

The AMF Plainview holiday tournament drew a record crowd of 149 entries, advanced 25 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $5,260. WTBA’s “Beijing” 35 foot pattern was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 675 in the 1pm squad and 705 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Andrew Mienkiewicz, Massapequa, NY, with a 756 series in the 3pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is the annual New Year’s Day 5-game Handicap Marathon at AMF Babylon. This event is only 1 squad and begins at 1pm. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500.
