JOE KINGSTON WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Wantagh, NY:  Joe Kingston, a 28 year old electrician from Ronkonkoma, NY, shot a 226 handicap game to claim a five pin victory worth $1,000 at LIGBT’s event at AMF Wantagh. Joe, who has been an LIGBT member for over 2 years, defeated four other shootout competitors to win his first LIGBT title. Joe’s victory was worth $1,000 plus a beautiful trophy.

The final shootout was extremely competitive as 5 bowlers took the lanes to compete for $2,250. Joe started the match with 2 opens in his first 5 frames but took the lead when he threw 4 strikes in a row beginning in frame 6. The early leader was second place finisher Scott Kampf, a 15 year old student from Levittown, NY. Scott, who has one of the highest averages in the LIGBT, earned $500 with a 221. Scott could have won his third title with a double in the tenth but he rolled a 7 count on his first shot in the final frame.

The battle for the last 3 spots in the shootout was extremely close. Finishing third with a 202 and earning $300 was Dave Perrone who resides in West Babylon, NY. Fourth went to Terry Cooper, Brooklyn, NY with a 201 worth $275. The final spot in the shootout went to Mike Simeone, Wantagh, NY with a 193 worth $250.    

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew a great summer crowd of 109 entries, advanced 19 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,035. Kegel’s “Abbey Road” pattern (40 feet) was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 699 in the 1pm squad and 713 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by the 5th place finisher Mike Simeone with a 780 in the 3pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a special Friday night event, July 24th at AMF East Meadow. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 6 will cash for a minimum of $60.
