Levittown, NY: Bev Parker, a telecom specialist from New York City, defeated 4 other shootout finalists at South Levittown Lanes to win her first LIGBT title and the $1,000 top prize. Bev shot a 239 giving her a five pin victory over second place finisher Maniram Basedo, Bronx, NY who shot a 234 to earn $500. Third place went to Shui Lee, Forest Hills, NY with a 217 worth $300. The fourth spot was taken by Kenny Wright, Brooklyn, NY with a 189 worth $250 and fifth went to Rob Foerster, E. Meadow, NY with a 177 earning him $200.
The final 5 shootout was extremely competitive with the winner not determined until the final frame. Beverly was getting the most handicap so she had an early lead despite opening twice in the first 5 frames. Maniram spared in his first 7 frames, and after an open, doubled in the 9th and 10th to force Bev to fill 20 pins in her final frame. Bev threw a perfect strike on her first ball and then spared to claim her title.
The South Levittown tournament drew a nice summer crowd of 97 entries, advanced 17 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $3,570. Kegel’s “Sphinx” pattern (40 feet) was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 732 in the 1pm squad and 709 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by the 2nd place finisher Maniram Basdeo with an 815 in the 1pm squad.
LIGBT’s next tournament is a special Friday night event, August 14th at AMF Plainview. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. One in 6 will cash for a minimum of $60.
