Garden City, NY:  Lisa LaGuarino, a left handed bowler from North Bellmore, NY, won her first LIGBT title at AMF Garden City. Lisa needed a mark in the final frame to secure the title which earned her the $1,000 top prize and a beautiful trophy. Lisa shot a 237 handicap game which was 15 pins more than second place finisher Chris Odle, Brooklyn, NY who shot a 222 and earned $600. Third place went to Joe Hoenig, E. Meadow, NY with a 198 worth $400.

The final shootout was a nerve racking event as all 3 bowlers were looking for their first LIGBT title. Lisa’s victory was due to her consistent marking of frames as her only open was a split in the second frame. Joe marked in his first 5 frames but had 3 opens late hurting his chances at victory. Chris had a slow start but finished with 5 strikes in a row to force Lisa to mark in the tenth frame. Lisa struck on her first ball in the final frame to win the title.

The AMF Garden City tournament drew an incredible summer crowd of 131 entries, advanced 20 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,830. Kegel’s “Winding Road” pattern (39 feet) was used resulting in moderate scoring; the cut was 710 in the 1pm squad and 700 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Scott Kampf, Levittown, NY with a 760 in the 3pm squad.
