E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT’s Labor Day Weekend Major at AMF E. Meadow was won by Kevin Son, Palisades Park, NJ. Kevin won his 2nd LIGBT title by defeating Joe Scianna (lefty), Long Island, NY 217-208 in a low scoring final shootout. Kevin earned $2,000 for his victory while Joe won $1,000 as the runner-up. Finishing in third place with a 190 was Rich Palumbo, Levittown, NY earning $700. Rounding out the top 5 was fourth and fifth place finisher Ed Ziemak, Thiells, NY with a 183 worth a total of $700. Ed cashed twice in the final shootout as he was the scratch champion and a shootout representative of the 49 & under handicap division.

The 4-person final shootout was surprisingly low scoring with only 2 triples thrown during the match. Kevin started out strong with a triple but opens in the 5th & 6th frames made the match competitive. Joe actually took the lead in the 7th frame with a triple but missed two 1-pin spares in the next 2 frames to settle for 2nd place. Rich bowled well and threw 3 doubles but 2 opens hurt his title chances. Ed, who had no handicap, never threw a double, and took the last 2 spots.

The LIGBT Labor Day Weekend Major drew 257 entries and paid out a $12,890 prize fund to 71 cashers. The side action awarded an additional $9,530 bringing the total event payout to $22,420. Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 665-712. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 694 to 730. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 692-727. Anthony Cotter, Bellmore, NY shot the only perfect game of the tournament.
