Meadow, NY: Sun Kim, a 60-year-old sushi chef from Hicksville, NY won the LIGBT Firecracker Classic at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday. Sun won his 5th LIGBT title by defeating Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY 272-247 in the final shootout. Sun earned $2,000 for his victory while Tom won $1,000 as the runner-up. Finishing in third place, with a 227, was Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY earning $600. Rounding out the top 4 was Marc Miller, Merrick, NY with a 222 worth $400.

Sun started his title run on Friday night by leading the 9pm squad with a 727 series. Sun was dominating in the finals with a 2nd round game of 259 and a 3rd round game of 240. In the final shootout Sun was the only bowler to shoot a “clean” game giving him a 25-pin victory.

The LIGBT Firecracker Classic attracted a wonderful crowd of 220 entries generating a $10,920 prize fund paid that was paid out to 57 cashers. The side action awarded an additional $9,745 bringing the total event payout to $20,655. Scores to cash on the “Turnpike” pattern were competitive ranging from a low of 636 in the Friday, 7pm squad and a high of 666 in the Sunday noon squad. The wildcard winners, top 6-game series by non-finalists, were Joe Angelone, Massapequa, NY on Friday night shooting a 1,312 series and Kenny Bruce, Oceanside, NY on Sunday shooting a 1,328 series.
