Garden City, NY: LIGBT ran Sport Shot Series #2 at AMF Garden City and saw Julio Arnold, Woodside, NY return to the winner’s circle after a 7-year hiatus. Julio won his 3rd LIGBT title, and the $1,000 top prize, by defeating 16-year-old Jaiden Ng, Syosset, NY 259-253. Jaiden earned a $500 SMART scholarship for second place. There was a tie for 3rd and 4th place with 16-year-old student Jake Lau, Albertson, NY and 78-year-old senior Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY both shooting 217 and each earning $275.
The final shootout was a close match as all 4 bowlers had a shot at the title going into the last few frames. Jaiden had the lead most of the game rolling 6 strikes in a row. Julio stayed close with a 4-timer going into the last frame. Jaiden needed a double in the final frame to overcome the 18-pin handicap advantage Julio had but a 7 count on his first ball gave Julio the victory. Jake and Alex had some late opens and finished in a tie for 3rd place.
The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 89 entries, paid out $4,570 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,215 bringing the total event payout to $6,985.
Scores to cash on the Broadway pattern were 673 at noon and 662 at 2pm. The wildcard winner was Rich Hengel, East Meadow, NY with a 1,375 six-game series. High series of the day was shot by our 2nd place finisher Jaiden Ng with an 806 series in the noon squad. High woman of the day was Stephanie Pidala, Maspeth, NY with a 694 series which got her added to the finals.
