Garden City, NY: The LIGBT kicked off Season 16 with Sport Shot Series #1 at AMF Garden City and couldn’t have had a more exciting finish. Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY, won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2^nd place finisher Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY 241-227. Andrew earned $500 for his runner-up position. Finishing in third place was Denis Mendelson, Levittown, NY with a 226 worth $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Eddie Cintron, Laurelton, NY with a 189 worth $250.

The Garden City sport shot event featured the “Alcatraz” pattern which proved challenging throughout the day. All 4 shootout finalists had at least 3 open frames. But the low scores kept everyone close in the shootout which ended with an amazing finish. Lagging in 3^rd place going into the 9^th frame, Romie threw 3 strikes in a row to jump from third to first. Denis had a shot at the title if he struck but missed the head pin and opened to drop to third place. Andrew also opened in the final frame but squeaked out second place. Eddie struggled throughout the shootout and settled for 4^th place.     

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 88 entries, paid out $4,405 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $3,935 bringing the total event payout to $8,340.  

Scores to cash on the 38 foot “Alcatraz” pattern were 644 at 1pm and 652 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was William Tudy, Brooklyn, NY with a 1,244. High series of the day was shot by Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY with a 757 in the 3pm squad.

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its end-of-season House Shot Championship at AMF E. Meadow. Eddie Walker, Washington DC won the prestigious title worth $2,500 by defeating fellow senior bowler Vito Genova Sr., Franklin Square, NY, 270-264 in the final shootout. While Vito earned $1,500 for 2^nd place, finishing in third was the scratch champion Joe Scianna, Long Island, NY with a 258 earning $1,000. Rounding out the top 5 was 4^th place finisher Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY with a 223 worth $800 and 5^th place finisher Tyger Folmar, Long Island, NY, with a 206 worth $600.   

Eddie’s first LIGBT title, at the age of 75, was due to his consistency. Eddie qualified for the finals by earning the senior wildcard bonus with a 1413 six-game series. In the final shootout Ed never had an open frame while Vito, who threw 10 strikes out of 12 frames, had 2 opens which cost him the title. Joe Scianna also threw a clean game but since he was representing the scratch division, he received no handicap which made it a big challenge to win the title. Jason and Tyger bowled well but couldn’t string enough strikes to put pressure on the champion. 

The house shot produced good scoring all weekend. Cut scores to cash were 692-729 in the scratch division, 672-731 in the 49 & under handicap division, and 684-732 in the handicap senior division. High handicap series of the tournament was shot by Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY with a 797. The wildcard winners were; Ed Walker (1413), Josh Arrington, Springfield Gardens, NY (1396), Carolyn Willis, Bethpage, NY (1469), Mitch Benov, Seaford, NY (1422), Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights, NY (1387), and Joe Scianna (1434.)

The House Shot Championship also ran a “FREE BONUS TOURNAMENT” for bowlers competing in 8 or more House Shot Series events in Season 15. The winner of the bonus tournament was Maniram Basdeo with a 797 earning $1,000. Finishing in 2^nd place was Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY with a 775 worth $500. Finishing in third place was Max Thomas with 755 worth $250. A total of 10 bowlers cashed (724 was the cashing cut) in the $2,580 bonus prize fund.   

The LIGBT Sport Shot Championship drew 228 entries, paid out $17,980 in prize money, and had 73 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $6,490 bringing the total event payout to $24,470.  

The House Shot Championship was the final event of LIGBT Season 15. Season 16 kicks off with a sport shot tournament on Sunday, October 15^th at AMF Garden City. Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its end-of-season Sport Shot Championship at AMF Garden City. Tony Genova, Franklin Square, NY, won the prestigious title worth $3,000 by defeating Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY, 263-248 in the final shootout. While Ed earned $1,500 for 2^nd place, finishing in third was Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY with a 220 earning $1,250. Rounding out the top 4 was Kyle Durfee, Levittown, NY with a 193 worth $1,000.   

Tony’s first LIGBT title since joining the club in 2010 was accomplished with an incredible performance in the final shootout. Tony was the only finalist to throw a clean game, and when he threw four strikes in a row in the middle of the match, his title was secured. Ed bowled well, and could have pushed Tony harder, but a gutter ball in the 4^th frame cost him 23 pins in wood. Tom bowled a great game but just couldn’t string strikes, while Kyle had trouble converting spares.

The sport shot pattern “Broadway” proved challenging for most. Cut scores to make the finals ranged from 673-718 and to cash 662-685. Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY had the high series of the tournament with a 774. The wildcard winners were; Glenn Swirson, Syosset, NY (1377), Nick Falsetta, N. Babylon, NY (1373) and Archie Nabas, Queens Village, NY (1345.)

The Sport Shot Championship also ran a “FREE BONUS TOURNAMENT” for bowlers competing in 8 or more Sport Shot Series events in Season 15. The winner of the bonus tournament was Maniram Basdeo with a 765 earning $1,000. Finishing in 2^nd place was Jimmy Walsh, Glen Cove, NY with a 753 worth $500. There was a tie for 3^rd and 4^th place by Vito Genova Sr. and Max Thomas both shooting 742 and each earning $200. A total of 10 bowlers cashed in the $2,580 bonus prize fund.   

The LIGBT Sport Shot Championship drew 182 entries, paid out $16,320 in prize money, and had 59 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $9,265 bringing the total event payout to $25,585.

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its annual 2-day Labor Day Weekend House Shot Major at AMF Garden City. Michael Scott, Middle Island, NY, representing the 49 & under handicap division, defeated Isaiah Zamor, Hempstead, NY also from the 49 & under handicap division, 275-236. Mike earned $2,000 for the title while Isaiah earned $1,000 for 2^nd place. Finishing in third, with a 209, was Jin Hong, Jamaica, NY, representing the senior handicap division and earning $700. Rounding out the top 5 was the same bowler; Jonthan Nottage, Hopewell Junction, NY finished 4^th-$550 (from the scratch division) and 5^th-$450 (from the handicap senior division) with a 188 worth a total of $1,000.

Michael Scott was bowling in his 5^th LIGBT tournament and made the most of it. Mike started the shootout in the lead with the most handicap and never looked back. Mike had a 5-timer and was clean through 8 frames until he opened in the 9^th. But his lead of 46 pins was insurmountable when he opened. Isaiah tried to hang in but had 2 early opens and never caught up. Jin and Jonathan bowled well but just could not keep up with Mike.

The LIGBT Labor Day Weekend Major was a big success with 286 entries generating a $12,560 prize fund. A total of 77 bowlers went to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $7,520 bringing the total event payout to $20,080.

Scores to cash on the house shot varied by division. The scratch cuts ranged from 665-719. The 49 & under handicap cuts ranged from 675 to 738. The 50 & over handicap cuts were 681-715. Jonathan Nottage shot the only 300 of the tournament. The Storm ball winner was Mark Ferrara, Levittown, NY.

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran Sport Shot Series #12 at AMF Garden City and crowned a brand-new champion. Khodie Moscoe, a 30-year-old 2-handed bowler from Freeport, NY. Khodie won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2^nd place finisher Mack Oakman Jr., Melville, NY 294-256. Mack earned $600 for his runner-up position. Finishing in third place was Jaleesa Taylor, Flushing, NY with a 222 worth $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Darryl McDuffie, Floral Park, NY with a 215 worth $300.

The sport shot pattern “Beaten Path” proved a real challenge for most bowlers. But Khodie overcame the tough pattern and threw two triples in the shootout to secure his first LIGBT title. While none of the four finalists threw a clean game, there was still some great bowling. Mack stayed close to Khodie but an open in frame 7 forced him to settle for second place. Jaleesa had trouble early but finished strong with 5 strikes in her last 4 frames to grab 3^rd place. Darryl bowled well but couldn’t string strikes which was needed since he was spotting everyone handicap.     

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 95 entries, paid out $4,735 in prize money, and had 24 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,845 bringing the total event payout to $10,580.  

Scores to cash on the 35 foot “Beaten Path” pattern were 681 at 1pm and 661 at 3pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Steven Wade, Inwood, NY with a 1,394. Squad leaders were Guy Sereno (744) at 1pm and Jaleesa Taylor (799) at 3pm.

Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its 12^th and final event of its House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow. The tournament used a 4-game format with the top 2 from each age handicap division advancing to a 4-person shootout. There was also a separate scratch competition. The handicap champion was Josh Marino, Port Jeff St., NY earning $1,000. The scratch winner was Kyle Durfee, Levittown, NY earning $600.

The final handicap shootout was extremely close with the winner not decided until the last frame. Sal Maenza, Franklin Sq., NY led the shootout for 9 frames by striking 7 out of his first 9 shots. But when he missed a 1-pin spare in the 10^th, that opened the door for Josh, who struck on his first ball in the 10th frame to grab his first LIGBT title 269-264. Sal, who was also looking for his first title, earned $700 for his runner-up position. Finishing in 3^rd place, and earning $500 was Jedd Ocampo, E. Meadow, NY with a 244. Jedd was the only finalist to throw a clean game in the shootout. Rounding out the top 4 was Harry Park, Flushing, NY with a 208 worth $400.    

The scratch event was won by Kyle Durfee with a 4-game total of 1,068 (267 average.) Finishing in 2^nd with a 1,010 was Justin Kampf, Levittown, NY earning $350. Rounding out the top 3, and earning $220, was Jedd Ocampo with a 997 series. A total of 7 bowlers cashed in the $1,730 prize fund that featured a cashing score of 916. There was a total of 27 scratch entries recorded.  

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #12 at AMF E. Meadow drew an amazing field of 117 entries, paid out $7,565 in prize money, and had 31 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,315 bringing the total day’s payout to $11,880. Scores to cash were 952 in the 49 & under handicap division, 943 in the senior handicap division, and 916 in the scratch event. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Sal Palazzalo, Bayside, NY.

Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Summer Doubles Tournament at AMF Wantagh and for the first time crowned 2 brothers as Doubles Champions. The winners of the $2,000 top prize were Greg and Matt Schultz from New Hyde Park, NY with a 1,955 four-game total. Finishing in 2^nd place, just 5 pins behind, was the team of Nas Freeman, Cambria Heights, NY and Nicole Karaman, Seaford, NY with a 1,950 total earning $1,000.

Two senior bowlers teamed up to take third place earning $600; Gary Paulsen, Massapequa, NY and Frank Lunghi, Farmingdale, NY shot a 1941 series to miss winning the event by just 14 pins. Fourth place went to the team of Andrew Yi, Bayside, NY and David Choi, Flushing, NY with a 1916 worth $450. Rounding out the top 5 was the team of Josh Arrington, Springfield Gardens, NY and Tom Mullahey, Wantagh, NY with an 1899 earning them $400.

The Doubles event drew a wonderful field of 79 teams with 13 teams cashing in the $6,610 prize fund. The side action paid out an additional $3,610 bringing the total day’s payout to $10,220. The LIGBT welcomed 11 new members. The cut score to cash on the house shot pattern was 1,850.

The LIGBT’s next event is a 4-game singles house shot tournament on Sunday, August 20^th at AMF E. Meadow. The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Randi B. Siegel Law Offices, Billvee Electric, CLS Custom Upholsterers and Turbo 2-n-1 Grips.

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a 2-day Summer Sport Shot Major at AMF Garden City. After 4 qualifying squads and 3 rounds of finals 17-year-old Nolan Herron, Fairfield, CT was the last man standing. Nolan earned the $2,000 top prize by defeating Beverly Parker, Brooklyn, NY 237-212 in the final shootout. While Bev earned $1,000 for second, placing third was Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY with a 209 worth $500. Rounding out the top 4 was Chris Colon, Brooklyn, NY with a 157 earning $300.

The final shootout was a close contest early but as Nolan kept filling frames, and the other 3 bowlers having multiple opens, Nolan built an insurmountable lead late in the game. The battle for 2^nd place was between Romie and Beverly. When Bev marked in the final frame, and Romie missed a spare, Bev secured second place by 3 pins. Chris bowled well but couldn’t carry as he had 9 counts on his first 6 out of 7 frames and settled for 4^th place.

The LIGBT Spring Major was a success with 176 entries generating a $9,030 prize fund. A total of 44 bowlers visited the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $8,565 bringing the total event payout to $17,595. Storm ball winners were James Marino and Danny Todaro.

Scores to cash on the 39 foot “Winding Road” pattern ranged from 652-672. The 4 squad leaders, each earning a bye, were: Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY (748 Friday-8pm), James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY (703 Friday-10pm), Chris Colon, Brooklyn, NY (705 Sunday-1pm) and Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY (741 Sunday-3pm.) The 3 wildcard winners were: Rich Hill, Brooklyn, NY 1343, Dave Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY 1328, and Jason Epps, Jamaica, NY 1340.
