New Hyde Park, NY: Jonathan Robles, a 32 year old U.S. Postal Service mail handler, from Jamaica, NY, won his first LIGBT title by defeating 2-time title holder Jimmy Walsh, Glen Cove, NY 221-219 at Herrill Lanes. Jon earned $1,000 for his victory while James won $500. Rounding out the top 4 was third place finisher Julio Arnold, Woodside, NY with a 204 worth $350 and fourth went to Robert Smith, Flushing, NY with a 198 worth $300.
The shootout became a “survival of the fittest” as everyone had at least 2 opens by the sixth frame on the very tough “Beijing” pattern. Jon was getting the most handicap and when he marked in his last 3 frames it forced Jimmy to double in the 10th to win. Jim got the first strike but when he rolled 8 on his next ball Jon won his first LIGBT victory.

The WTBA “Beijing” pattern created low cut scores: 685 in the first squad and 679 in the second squad. High series of the tournament was shot by our 3rd place finisher Julio Arnold with a 768 series in the second squad. The wildcard winner was Vinny Nguyen, Flushing, NY with a 1329 six game block.
