Coram, NY: Emmanuel Edobor-Osula, a 34 year old new father from S. Richmond Hill, NY, won his first LIGBT title by defeating Tom Gulin, Middle Island, NY, 313-252 at Coram Country Lanes. Emmanuel earned $1,000 for his victory while Tom earned $500. Rounding out the top 5 was third place finisher Nick Smith, Coram, NY with a 240 worth $350, fourth went to 19 year old Joe Laier, Massapequa Park, NY with a 234 worth $300, and fifth was taken by senior Ed Eng, Flushing, NY with a 204 worth $250.
The 5 person shootout was dominated by Emmanuel as he began the match with the first 8 strikes. Since Emmanuel was getting the most handicap the match was over early. The battle for second went to the final 2 frames when Tom tripled to secure his runner-up position. Nick had a chance to finish second if he doubled but threw an 8 count on his first ball in the 10th.
The Coram Country Lanes event drew a nice crowd of 102 entries (including 14 new members), advanced 18 bowlers to the finals and paid out $4,510. The house shot pattern created senior cut scores of; 732 & 731 and 49 & under cut scores of 721 & 719. High series of the tournament was shot by Joe Laier with an 828 in the first squad which included the only 300 game of the day. Tisha Luti, Coram, NY was the high women with a 691 and was added to the finals.
The LIGBT welcomed several new sponsors at Coram. Montauk Iced Tea was on-site sampling their fine ice teas and lemonade. They also gave away a hooded sweatshirt to a lucky winner. Jay Bell’s pro shop gave away four $20 gift certificates. Dependable Rolloff and Sayville Flowers also added money to the prize fund.
LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-day special event at AMF Garden City March 23 & 25. The top 2 prizes are guaranteed to pay $2,000 & $1,000 with 1 in 6 each squad advancing to the finals and earning a minimum of $100.
