Levittown, NY: The LIGBT crowned 2 marathon champions on President’s Weekend. The handicap champion was James Hellen, Lindenhurst, NY shooting a 1340 five game series to win the $1,000 top prize. The scratch marathon champion was Paul Bajorski, Islip, NY winning $500 with a 1275 series.
The handicap division had different leaders after each game. But the only lead that counts is after game 5 which was held by James as he finished with a 248. Finishing second, just 20 pins behind first was Andrew Muscarello, Seaford, NY with a 1320 series worth $500. Finishing third was James O’Hanlon, Keansburg, NJ with a 1295 series worth $250. It took a 1228 series to cash in the handicap marathon.
The scratch marathon, which had 32 entries, was also close throughout the night. Paul took the lead after 3 games by shooting an 803 series including a 300 in game three. Tony Federici, Portchester, NY, almost caught Paul with final games of 268 and 256 but fell 45 pins short with a 1230 series worth $300. Finishing third was Tommy Grunwald, Astoria, NY with a 1226 worth $200. It took an 1144 series to cash in the scratch marathon.
The Levittown Lanes President’s marathon drew a wonderful nighttime crowd of 99 entries and paid out $5,255. A total of 25 bowlers cashed in the 2 prize lists which paid out using a 1 in 4 ratio. The only 300 game of the night was shot by the scratch champion Paul Bajorski.
