Plainview, NY: Tony Gee, a 51 year old Fox News employee from Floral Park, NY defeated Adam DeRossi, a 35 year old IT director from Massapequa Park, NY 256-248 to win the $3,000 top prize at LIGBT’s Winter Major held at AMF Plainview. Adam won $1,500 for second while James Hellen, Lindenhurst, NY won $750 finishing third with a 245. Rounding out the top 5 was fourth place finisher Dennis McMillan, Jamaica, NY with a 206 worth $500 and fifth went to Gary Brown, Coram, NY with a 204 worth $400.
It has been 6 years since Tony won an LIGBT title as his last victory came in 2012 at AMF Syosset. Tony started the match strong with 5 strikes in his first 6 frames. But he let everyone back in the match when he only marked once in his last 3 frames. Adam could have won the title with a strike in the tenth but he left a 10 pin. James could have tied Tony with a triple in the final frame but he threw only one strike.
The AMF Plainview event drew a nice crowd of 234 entries, advanced 40 bowlers to the finals and paid out $12,090. The cut scores on the “Middle Road” pattern ranged from 700 to 759. High series of the tournament was shot by Yon Gyo Phark, Flushing, NY with an 864 in the Friday, 8pm squad. There were 2 wildcard bonuses. The Friday night wildcard was won by Richie Patson, Lindenhurst, NY with a 1,469 six game series and the Sunday wildcard was won by Redy Bugaoan, Massapequa, NY with a 1384.
