Deer Park, NY:  Deon Taitte, a welder and new father from Amityville, NY, won the $2,000 top prize at LIGBT’s Match Play Championship event hosted by Strike 10 Deer Park. Deon’s first LIGBT title was accomplished when he defeated Johnny Kim, Fresh Meadows, NY, 218-213 in the final shootout. While Johnny earned $1,000 for second, Antonino Dilluvio, Flushing, NY took third with a 212 worth $500. Rounding out the top 4 was William Luna, Corona, NY with a 183 worth $250.

The final shootout was low scoring. There were 7 opens by the third frame! The key to Deon’s victory was he only had one open frame the entire match. Going into the final frame Deon had a 10 pin lead. When Deon knocked down 18 pins in the 10th it gave Johnny and Antonino a chance to double to win the title. When neither accomplished the feat Deon won his first title.

The Strike 10 Deer Park event drew a nice post blizzard crowd of 113 entries, advanced 20 bowlers to the finals and paid out $6,150. The cut scores on the PBA Chameleon pattern were low; 675-696. High series of the tournament was shot by James Hellen, with a 768 in the Friday, 10pm squad. The two wildcard winners were Robert Mendez, Brooklyn, NY with a 1346 on Friday and Johnny Kim with a 1323 on Sunday.
