W. Babylon, NY: Jose Ferreira, a right-handed senior bowler from Woodside, NY won the $1,000 top prize at LIGBT’s sport shot event at AMF Babylon. Jose defeated second place finisher Chet McMillan, Lindenhurst, NY 258-243 in an exciting final match. While Chet earned $500, finishing third was Paulo Martins, New York, NY with a 238 earning $300. Rounding out the top 4 was Kameron Smith, Mamaroneck, NY with a 203 worth $250.
The Babylon final shootout involved 3 senior bowlers and one youngster. Jose started out strong with 4 strikes in his first 5 frames (3 were crossovers but who’s counting!) Paulo stayed close to his friend Jose by marking in his first 7 frames including a double. Chet also stayed close with doubles in the 4th & 5th frames and then again in the 9th & 10th frames but fell just short. When Jose marked in the final frame he secured his second LIGBT title and the first in the last 4 years.
The AMF Babylon event drew a great summer crowd of 110 entries, advanced 32 bowlers to the finals (almost 1 in 3) and paid out $5,720. The cut scores on the “London” pattern were moderate; 703 & 718. High series of the tournament was shot by Orlando Blackwell, Hollis, NY with an 801 in the first squad. The wildcard winner was Eddie Eng, Flushing, NY with a 1372 series. The no bonus pins pot winners were Andrew Mienkiewicz (698), Adam DeRossi (698), John Fitzgerald (707), and Kameron Smith (696.) The no-tap jackpot was hit by four bowlers in the first squad; Rich Hengel, Kameron Smith, Fermin Gilberto, and Orlando Blackwell with each earning $45. The jackpot was not hit in the second squad and will be worth $220 at Herrill Lanes.
LIGBT’s next tournament is a house shot event at Whitestone Lanes on Sunday, June 11th. Top prizes are guaranteed at $1,000-$500-$300-$250 with 1 in 6 each squad advancing to the finals and guaranteed a minimum of $100. Entry fees are $70 & $60 and that includes the no-tap jackpot.
