Coram, NY: James Hellen, a 34 year old right hander from Long Beach, NY, won his second consecutive LIGBT house shot title by defeating Connor Druhm, Bayport, NY 263-254 at Coram Country Lanes. James earned $1,000 for his victory while Connor, who is recovering from wrist surgery, earned $500. Rounding out the top 5 was third place finisher senior Sal Florindo, Forest Hills, NY with a 251 worth $350, fourth went to Darcy Monroe, E. Meadow, NY with a 217 worth $300, and fifth was taken by Adam DeRossi, Massapequa Park, NY with a 180 worth $250.
The man shootout was well bowled with a lot of strikes. Darcy got off to a fast start with 4 in a row but 3 late splits hurt his title hopes. Adam struggled the entire match and had to settle for 5th place. Sal hit the pocket all game and threw a no-tap 300 but fell short by just 12 pins. The champion wasn’t decided until the 10th frame as Connor needed a double to win. Unfortunately he left a 10 pin which gave James the title and $1,000 top prize.
The Coram Country Lanes event drew a nice crowd of 106 entries, advanced 18 bowlers to the finals and paid out an amazing $4,200 despite the reduced entry fee of $65. The house shot pattern created cut scores of; 777 & 776. High series of the tournament was shot by our champion James with an 880 in the first squad.
