Farmingdale, NY: Jeonghun Ji, a 33 year-old importer from Flushing, NY, won the $2,000 top prize at LIGBT’s 2016 July 4th Weekend Major at Farmingdale Lanes. Jeonghun won his first LIGBT title with an impressive 261 game giving him a 39 pin victory over second place finisher Lenny Nguyen, Flushing, NY who earned $1,000 with a 222. Finishing third was Steve Chiu, Little Neck, NY with a 216 worth $750 and fourth was taken by Eduardo DeJesus, Bronx, NY with a 189 worth $500.
Jeonghun won his first LIGBT title was a consistent performance in the shootout. He started with a double and stayed clean the rest of the game. When Jeonghun doubled in his last 2 frames the other bowlers were forced to shoot for second place. The other three shootout bowlers all shot well but were hurt by splits as each threw 3 of them during the shootout.
The LIGBT July 4th Weekend Major drew a 4 squad crowd of 214 entries plus 33 desperado entries. A total of 39 bowlers cashed in a prize fund that paid $9,820. Kegel’s 38 foot Taj Mahal pattern was used and scoring was moderate with cuts ranging from 698 to 722. High series of the tournament was shot by Hector Diaz Jr., Bronx, NY with a 796 in the Sunday 3pm squad. Twelve bowlers earned a brand new Brunswick Mastermind Strategy by shooting the high handicap score each game in every squad.
LIGBT’s next tournament is a sport shot event at Herrill Lanes on Sunday, July 17h (1pm & 3pm). Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000, $500, $300 and $250.
