FRANK LUNGHI “CLEANS UP” AT AMF GARDEN CITY

Garden City, NY:  Frank Lunghi, a 67 year old retired right-hander from Farmingdale, NY, won his first LIGBT title in 4 years at AMF Garden City. Frank bowled the only clean game in the finals to defeat second place finisher George Williams, Jamaica, NY 236-217. Frank earned $1,000 for his victory while George took home $500 for his runner-up position. Finishing third was Joe LaBargo, Bayside, NY with a 211 worth $350 and fourth went to Jetta Bonds, Brooklyn, NY with a 197 worth $300.

The 4-person shootout was a low scoring match as no one threw a double. By the fifth frame everyone, except Frank, had an open frame. The top 2 finishers, Frank and George, were tied in the 8th frame but George lost 8 pins in wood in his final 3 frames to give Frank his second LIGBT title.

The AMF Garden City tournament drew a great crowd of 133 entries, advanced 23 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,885. Kegel’s “Winding Road” (39 feet) was used resulting in cut scores of 725 in the 1pm squad and 735 in the 3pm squad. High series of the tournament was shot by Tony Jimenez with an 838 in the 3pm squad.  

LIGBT’s next tournament is our monthly house shot event at S. Levittown on Sunday, March 13th with 2 squads; 1pm & 3pm. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000-1st, $500-2nd, $300-3rd, & $250-4th.
