Plainview, NY: Joe LaBargo, a 25 year old right-hander from Bayside, NY, won his first LIGBT title at AMF Plainview. Joe defeated second place finisher Clive Tobias, Huntington, NY, 294-281 in a very exciting finish. Joe’s first title earned him $500 plus an invitation to LIGBT’s Tournament of Champions and Clive earned $300 for his second straight runner-up finish. Finishing third was Gary Brown, Coram, NY with a 273 worth $275 and fourth went to Ralph Yandoli, Bellmore, NY with a 250 earning him $250.
The 4 person shootout was a very close match that started out slow and finished with a bang. Halfway through the shootout only two bowlers had a double. But all 4 bowlers threw the last 4 strikes in a row to finish the match. Joe finished like a champion throwing the last 6 strikes in a row. All four bowlers in the shootout were looking for their first LIGBT title.
Despite a major blizzard the day before 36 bowlers made it to AMF Plainview to compete. Although the prize fund was based on entries due to the weather, all guarantees were met except for the top two prizes. A total of 7 bowlers advanced to the finals which paid out $1,565. The house shot event resulted in big scores as the cut at 1pm was 783 and 831 at 3pm. High series of the tournament was shot by Clive Tobias with an 856 in the 1pm squad. Joe LaBargo had the only 300 game.
LIGBT’s next tournament is at AMF East Meadow on Sunday, January 31st with 2 squads; 1pm & 3pm. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000-1st, $500-2nd, $300-3rd, & $250-4th.
