WILDCARD MANIRAM BASDEO WINS 3RD TITLE

Plainview, NY: Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY won his third LIGBT in 4 years by shooting the only clean game in a 5 bowler shootout at AMF Plainview. Maniram, who was added to the finals as a wildcard entry since he shot the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist (1,408), rolled a 260 to defeat second place finisher Darcy Monroe, Hicksville, NY by 5 pins. Maniram earned $1,000 for his victory while Darcy took home $500 with his 255.

The final shootout was a close one as 3 bowlers in the 8th frame were within 3 pins of each other. Maniram took the title with a double in the final 2 frames to secure the victory. Finishing third with a 236 was Redy Bugaoan, Massapequa, NY who earned $250. Fourth place went to Angelo DeSena, Brooklyn, NY with a 229 worth $225. Fifth place was taken by recent champion David Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY with a 206 worth $200.

The AMF Plainview tournament drew a nice post major crowd of 107 entries, advanced 19 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $3,255. A new lane pattern was used, WTBA Stockholm (34 feet), and scoring was on the moderate to high side (728 cut at 1pm & 737 at 3pm). The high series of the day was shot by two bowlers; Scott Teitler, Patchogue, NY (3pm) and Darcy Monroe (1pm) both with 755.

JOHN RHODES WINS $3,000 AT LIGBT MAJOR

Babylon, NY:  John Rhodes, a 36 year old right-hander from Huntington Station, NY won the LIGBT March Madness Major at AMF Babylon by defeating second place finisher Steven Williams, Bellerose, NY 260-247 in the final shootout. This was John’s first LIGBT title since joining the club in 2010 and it was worth $3,000. Steve Williams earned $1,500 for his runner-up position. Finishing third with a 240 was Rob Foerster, East Meadow, NY earning $750 and fourth place, worth $400, went to John Ksar, Long Island City, NY with a 217.

The final shootout was extremely competitive as there were many lead changes. Steve Williams and Rob Foerster, both with the lowest handicap, had a string of strikes early while John Rhodes kept sparing every frame. In fact John shot the only clean game in the final shootout which gave him his victory. When Rob and Steve left an open frame in the 4th and 7th frames respectively, and John doubled in the 7th/8th frames, he secured his first title.

The AMF Babylon March Madness Major drew a record crowd of 367 entries and paid out more than $25,000 in prizes. A total of 58 bowlers advanced to the finals earning a minimum of $50. With 156 different bowlers competing better than 1 in 3 advanced to the finals in the 3-day event.

Kegel’s Sunset Strip pattern was used the first 2 days but the scoring was too high so the final day featured Kegel’s “Turnpike” pattern. The cut scores on the Sunset Strip pattern ranged from a low of 718 to a high of 751. On the Sunday Turnpike Pattern the cut scores ranged from 699 to 709. The high series of the tournament was shot by our champion John Rhodes who rolled an incredible 874 series in the Saturday 3pm squad.

STEVEN WILLIAMS GETS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Wantagh, NY:  Steven Williams, a 51 year old right hander from Bellerose, NY earned his first LIGBT title by defeating second place finisher Dave Soren, Long Beach, NY ($500) 263-241 in the final shootout. Steve earned the $1,000 top prize by shooting a clean game, the only one in the shootout. Finishing third and earning $300 was 2 time champion Jack Kampf, Levittown, NY with a 164.

Both Steve and Dave had never won an LIGBT title with both having two second place finishes during their 5 year membership. Dave started the shootout by striking in his first 3 frames while Steve spared in his first three frames. Steve took control of the match with 4 strikes in a row from frames 6 to 9. Dave could have won the title by doubling in the final frame but he left a split which ended his chances at the title.  

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew a big crowd of 139 entries, advanced 25 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,440. Kegel’s Abbey Road pattern (40 feet) was used and scoring was on the high side (708 cut at 1pm and 718 at 3pm). The high series of the day was shot by Anatoly Khodorkovsky, Brooklyn, NY with an 808 in the 3pm squad.

BRAD MORRIS CRUSHES TO WIN FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Levittown, NY:  Brad Morris, a 30 year old physical education teacher from Bayside, NY, blew away the competition at South Levittown lanes to win the $1,500 top prize at LIGBT’s most recent handicap event. Brad, who rolls the ball without using a thumb hole, rolled an incredible 303 handicap game (254 scratch) to blow away the other 3 shootout finalists. Finishing second was Daniel Goldberg, Douglaston, NY with a 229 worth $750, third went to Ricky Sun, Jackson Heights, with a 227 worth $500 and fourth went to Rich Perrotti, Levittown, NY with a 190 worth $300.

The final shootout was a blow out as Brad, who was has been an LIGBT member for over a year and had never advanced past the first round of a finals, started with 6 strikes in a row while the other bowlers had opens. The real competition was for second place as Daniel Goldberg held off a late charge from Ricky Sun to take the runner up position by 2 pins.

The South Levittown tournament drew an incredible crowd of 179 entries, advanced 30 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $5,540. The PBA Chameleon pattern (39 feet) was used and scoring was on the moderate side (699 cut at 1pm, 689 at 3pm, 697 at 5pm). The high series of the day was shot by Bobby Wunsch with an incredible 863 in the 5pm squad.

DAVID CINCOTTA WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:  David Cincotta, a 43 year old right handed bowler from N. Babylon, NY, won his first LIGBT trophy with a great finals performance. David defeated Anne Quarry, Holtsville, NY 251-217 to win the $1,000 top prize. Anne earned $500 for her second place finish while Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace, NY finished third with a 201 taking home $300.

David’s qualified for the finals in the 1pm squad with a 708 series. In the final shootout David lead the entire match as he started with a double and didn’t have his first open until the 8th frame. Anne missed three 1 pin spares in the match to cost her the title. All 3 shootout finalists were looking for their first LIGBT title.

The Herrill Lanes event drew a great crowd of 121 entries, advanced 21 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,150. Kegel’s “Middle Road” pattern (39 feet) was used and scoring was on the low side (685 cut at 1pm and 695 at 3pm). The high series of the day was shot by Vito Genova Sr. with a 764 in the 3pm squad.

JOHN ROBERTSON WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

East Meadow, NY:  John Robertson, Brooklyn, NY, won his first LIGBT title worth $1,000, by defeating second place finisher Kyle Lathen, Bronx, NY 242-238 in the final shootout at AMF East Meadow. John won the tournament sitting on the bench as Kyle, needing a mark in the final frame to secure his first title, chopped the 3-6-10 spare. Kyle earned $500 for second place while Richard Frost, E. Islip, NY finished third with a 189 worth $300.

The AMF East Meadow tournament drew a great crowd of 141 entries, advanced 24 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $4,090. Kegel’s “Winding Road” pattern (39 feet) was used and scoring was on the moderate to high side (698 cut at 1pm and 725 at 3pm). The high series of the day was shot by our champion with an 834 in the 3pm squad.

LOU “MAJOR” MEDINA WINS $3,000 AT LIGBT MAJOR

Babylon, NY:  Lou Medina, W. Babylon, NY won the LIGBT Winter Major at AMF Babylon by defeating second place finisher Ferrill McNeil, Bronx, NY 247-243 in the final shootout. This was Lou’s second major victory (he also finished second in a major) giving him total winnings in 3 majors of $7,500!

The final shootout was exciting as the champion wasn’t determined until the final frame. Lou was getting the most handicap with 61 pins and Ferrill was getting the least 31 pins. Going into the 7th frame Lou and Ferrill were tied which meant Lou had to beat Ferrill scratch the rest of the game to win the title. Surprisingly, Lou won the title with a strike in the final frame giving him a 4 pin victory.

While Lou was earning $3,000 for first place Ferrill took home $1,500 for second. Finishing third in the shootout was Ed Eng, Flushing, NY who struggled most of the match to finish with a 188. Ed earned $750 for this third place finish.

The AMF Babylon Winter Major drew 252 entries and paid out more than $11,000. A total of 45 bowlers advanced to the finals earning a minimum of $80. With 127 different bowlers competing better than 1 in 3 advanced to the finals in the 3-day event.

Kegel’s “Turnpike” pattern (41 feet) was used and scoring was on the moderate to low side. The cut scores ranged from a low of 695 to a high of 730. The high series of the tournament was shot by a new member; Robert Wellons, Lindenhurst, NY with 767 in the Friday 7pm squad.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 2-squad handicap event at AMF East Meadow (squad times 1pm & 3pm) Sunday, January 26th. Top prizes are guaranteed to pay $1,000 & $500. FROM WILDCARD ENTRY TO CHAMPION!

South Levittown, NY:  It could have been a miserable day for Joseph Longiaru, E. Meadow, NY. Joe just missed the cut in the 2 squads he bowled but was added to the finals since he shot the highest 6-game block by a non-finalist (wildcard bonus.) Joe bowled incredibly in all 4 rounds of the finals to earn the $1,000 top prize and his first LIGBT trophy.

In the final shootout there were 3 bowlers competing for the title. In addition to Joseph, Joshua Adickes, Shirley, NY and Jack Kampf, Levittown, NY were hoping for a $1,000 payday. Joseph and Joshua, who both got 47 pins handicap, were within 2 pins of each other in the 8th frame. Joseph took the lead with a double in the last 2 frames to secure the victory. Joseph finished with a 250 while Joshua earned $500 with a 242 and Jack earned $250 with a 221.

The South Levittown tournament drew a great crowd of 122 entries and paid out $3,300. Kegel’s “Broadway” pattern (37 feet) was used and scoring was on the moderate to high side (711 cut at 1pm and 725 at 3pm). The high series of the day was shot by Adam Maugeri, Deer Park, NY with a 789 in the 3pm squad.
