Rockville Centre, NY:  Fermin Diaz, who resides in New York City, earned his first LIGBT title after two years of competing in the LIGBT. Fermin shot a 274 handicap game to defeat Rob Foerster, Huntington, NY by 32 pins (242-$500) and David Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY by 32 pins (222-$250). All 3 shootout finalists were looking to win their first LIGBT title.

The final shootout was a high scoring affair as all three bowlers stayed clean early and all had a triple by the 7^th frame. Fermin had the longest string of strikes with 5 and never opened securing his victory by the 8^th frame. The end of the shootout was a fight for second with Rob coming out ahead due to David opening in the last 3 out of 4 frames.

This was the first time the LIGBT visited Rockville Centre Lanes and a good summer crowd of 95 entries competed. The shot for the tournament was the 2009 USBC Open Championship pattern (40 feet) and scoring was high for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 717, and in the 3pm squad 729. There were 3 big handicap series; 801 by Dennis Freeman, Glendale, NY, 800 by Rob Foerster, and 799 by junior bowler Brandon Soedarmasto, Levittown, NY.  

LIGBT’s next tournament is Sunday, August 25^th at AMF East Meadow. This will be a regular 2-squad handicap singles event with top prizes guaranteed at $1,000 & $500. Plainview, NY:  Jeff Chen, Jackson Heights, NY won his first LIGBT title with a convincing victory in the shootout finals at AMF Plainview. Jeff shot a 269 handicap game to easily defeat second place finisher Eric Vecchi, Islip Terrace, NY by 47 pins and Kevin Rabich, Ridge, NY by 82 pins. While Jeff earned $1,000 and a beautiful trophy, Eric took home $500 with his 222 game and Kevin earned $250 with a 187.

The final shootout was started out slow for all 3 finalists as each one had an open by the second frame. Jeff threw a string of cross over strikes while the other two bowlers were having trouble striking which resulted in the match being over by the 8^th frame. With a bit of luck and a huge handicap advantage Jeff earned his first LIGBT title.

The AMF Plainview tournament drew a great summer crowd of 112 bowlers. The shot for the tournament was Kegel’s “Highway to Hell” (40 feet) and scoring was fairly low for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 668, and in the 3pm squad 684. High handicap series was shot by Greg Eskow, Syosset, NY with a 781 to lead the 3pm squad.

Babylon, NY:  Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY won the $1,000 top prize at AMF Babylon at an LIGBT Summer Tournament. Dwight won his first LIGBT title with a 250 handicap game which was good enough to defeat Sean Tehan, East Islip, NY (244) and Rob Foerster, Huntington, NY (143) in the final shootout. Sean earned $500 for his runner-up position while Rob took home $300 for third place.

The final shootout was a 2 man race that went to the final frame. Sean tripled in the final 2 frames to force Dwight to mark in his final frame. When Dwight converted a 6 pin in the tenth it clinched his first title. All 3 shootout finalists were looking for their first LIGBT title.  

The AMF Babylon tournament drew an incredible summer crowd of 128 bowlers. The shot for the tournament was Sunset Strip (40 feet) and scoring was fairly high for both squads. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 723, and in the 3pm squad 701. High handicap series was shot by Steve Baum, Commack, NY with a 790 to lead the 3pm squad.

East Meadow, NY: Ron Hatchett, New York, NY won his first LIGBT title and $2,000 this past Sunday at AMF East Meadow. Ron, who has finished second twice, got to the winner’s circle by defeating Angelo DeSena, Brooklyn, NY 268-232. Finishing third with a 216 was Kevin Belandria, Philadelphia, PA who earned $500. Fourth place went to Kevin Smith, Woodmere, NY ($300) and fifth went to Mack Oakman Jr., Wheatley Heights, NY earning $200.

The final shootout was a great one as the winner wasn’t determined until the final frame. Angelo bowled a fantastic game for the first 9 frames and had a 3 pin lead over Ron going into the last frame. But Angelo knocked down only 5 pins total in the tenth and Ron, who was on a strike in the 9^th, doubled in the tenth to secure his victory.

LIGBT’s first July 4^th major drew an incredible crowd of 231 bowlers. Over $7,000 in prize money was paid out to 45 different bowlers. More than 40% of the entrants cashed during the 3-day event. Scoring was on the low side all weekend as the competition was played on Kegel’s 35 foot Boardwalk pattern. High series of the weekend was shot by Derek Brandi, Whitestone, NY with an 807. Most of the cuts scores each squad were around 680.

Wantagh, NY:  Tommy Grunwald, Astoria, NY earned $1,000 by winning his first LIGBT title at AMF Wantagh. Tommy earned the champions trophy with a fantastic performance in the final shootout rolling a 283 handicap game (256 scratch) which was 15 pins more than second place finisher Anatoly Khodorkovsky, Brooklyn, NY. Anatoly, who threw an incredible 268 handicap game, earned $500 while third place finisher, Don Crummell, Freeport, NY was third with a 216 worth $300.

The final shootout was close early as Anatoly actually lead after 5 frames. In the sixth frame Tom started a string of 6 strikes that secured his victory. Both Tom and Anatoly rolled cleaned games. It was a little frustrating for Anatoly as his 268 handicap game would win most LIGBT events.

The AMF Wantagh tournament drew an incredible summer crowd of 121 bowlers. Kegel’s 40 foot “Abbey Road” pattern was put down and if you found the shot you could score well. The cut score in the 1pm squad was 666 and 669 in the 3pm squad. High handicap series in the 1pm squad was thrown by Angela DeSena, Brooklyn, NY with a 794. The 3pm squad leader was Elizabeth John, New York, NY who rolled the high series of the day; 818.

LIGBT’s next tournament is a 3-day major event at AMF East Meadow over July 4^th weekend. Top prizes at this tournament will pay $2,000-1^st and $1,000-2^nd. RON MOSZKOW WINS LIGBT TITLE AT FARMINGDALE LANES

Farmingdale, NY:  Ron Moszkow, Huntington Station, NY, won his first LIGBT title and it all happened at Farmingdale Lanes. Fighting a painful hip, which will be operated on over the summer, Ron shot a 230 handicap game to defeat two other grandfathers to win the $1,000 top prize. Finishing second with a 215 was Ed Ryan, Wantagh, NY earning $500 and third went to Ken Simpson, Shirley, NY winning $250 with a 200.

The final shootout was very tight the first 7 frames. In fact, Ron had 2 opens in the first 4 frames so his title aspirations were not looking good early. But a string of 4 strikes beginning in the 6^th frame by Ron overcame the 15 pin deficit and propelled him to victory.

The Farmingdale tournament drew a nice crowd of 100 bowlers. The shot for the tournament was PBA’s Cheetah, although it didn’t play as it normally does, and the scores were fairly low. The cut score in the in the 1pm squad was 671, and in the 3pm squad 670. High handicap series was shot by Ed Ryan, who actually shot the two highest series of the day; 790 and 783.

Long Island, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT) is pleased to release their Season 5 Summer schedule. A total of 8 events will be offered June through August including two majors. All regular events will guarantee a $1,000 & $500 top prizes and the major events will feature guaranteed top prizes of $2,000 (July 4^th Weekend) and $3,000 (Labor Day Weekend.)

The LIGBT Season 5 Summer Schedule will feature 6 regular two-squad handicap tournaments all guaranteeing $1,000 & $500 top prizes. These events run on Sundays with squads at 1pm & 3pm and 1 in 5 each squad advancing to the finals. The LIGBT is pleased to add Rockville Ctr Lanes as a new host during the summer tour.

One of the highlights of the summer schedule is a new major tournament that will run July 4^th weekend (July 5-7). This 6-squad event will be hosted at AMF East Meadow and feature $2,000 & $1,000 top prizes. The entry fee for this event is only $50 per squad making it the lowest entry fee the LIGBT has ever offered in a major tournament.

The LIGBT is the largest bowling club on the east coast and now boasts over 1,800 members. Now in its fifth season the LIGBT attracted over 4,000 entries in it’s just completed winter tour. Total payout in Season 5 has already exceeded $200,000! LIGBT welcomes all amateur bowlers that have not averaged over 220 the past two years.

Babylon, NY: Josh Schneidman, Melville, NY won his first LIGBT title and it was a big one. Josh defeated 3 other shootout finalists with a 240 handicap game, worth $3,000, to win the LIGBT Memorial Day Weekend Major at AMF Babylon. Finishing second was Jackie Delawski, Williston Park with a 208 handicap game earning her $1,500. Rounding out the top 4 were Paul Wong, Fresh Meadows, NY finishing third with a 196 worth $750 and fourth went to Kyle Lathen, Bronx, NY earning $500 with a 195.

Josh, who owns several pro shops on Long Island, advanced to the finals with a 769 earning him 1 bye as he was a squad leader. In the final shootout Josh got the least amount of handicap putting him behind early. But despite a very raw thumb Josh stayed cleaned through the first 8 frames while his opponents all had several opens which resulted in a 32 pin victory.

Scoring throughout the weekend was quite low as Kegel’s 41 foot Turnpike pattern was put down. Cut scores were as low as 643 which meant you didn’t even have to bowl your average to make the finals. Highest handicap series of the weekend was 780 shot by 2 bowlers; Darryl Freeman, New York, NY and John Pasciucco, Baldwin, NY. 

The Memorial Day Weekend Major was a record setting tournament for the LIGBT. 353 entries plus 36 Desperado entries were recorded. A total of 63 bowlers advanced to the finals, all earning a minimum of $100. Total payout for the weekend exceeded $30,000! The LIGBT also gave away 3 marathon entries into The Amateur Bowler’s Championship in Las Vegas to the highest 6-game block each day. The bowlers going to Vegas to shoot for the $10,000 top prize are; Dave Perrone, Josh Schneidman, and Maniram Basdeo.
