Commack, NY: Eddie Shacalo, Brooklyn, NY shot a 283 handicap game to win $1,000 and his first LIGBT title at AMF Commack. Ed defeated second place finisher Maniram Basdeo, Bronx, NY by 36 pins. Maniram earned $500 for second while Frank Lunghi, Farmingdale, NY finished third with a 237 and took home $250. Rounding out the top 5 were Michael Simeone, Wantagh, NY (217- $225) and Derek Brandi, Whitestone, NY 197- $200).
The scoring at AMF Commack was on the low side, especially in the second squad when the lanes began to break down. Cut scores to make the finals were 711 in the 1pm squad and 697 in the 3pm squad. Squad leader in the first squad was Eddie Shacalo with a 774 handicap series and the 3pm squad leader was Derek Brandi with a 772 handicap series.
The AMF Commack event attracted a great crowd of 154 entries with 32 bowlers advancing to the finals. Derek Brandi rolled the highest 6-game block to win a Mini-Eliminator Marathon entry package worth over $1,000! The payout at Commack exceeded over $5,000.
