New Hyde Park, NY: The LIGBT visited Herrill Lanes for the first time and the handicap only event was a big success. A great turnout of 70 bowlers competed on the PBA Chameleon pattern which produced fairly low scores. The final shootout involved 4 bowlers looking for their first LIGBT title. Emerging victorious with the $500 winner’s check was George Williams of Jamaica, NY.
A total of 14 bowlers made the elimination finals and all were guaranteed to earn at least $100. Lenny Tortorice of Flushing, NY was seeded directly into the final shootout by leading the 1pm squad with a 710. Donald Eubanks, Elmsford, NY earned 1 bye for leading the 3pm squad with a 734 series.The cut score to get through the first round was 213 and 195 for the second round. The final shootout was tense as all 4 competitors had opens in the early frames. But once things calmed down George Williams, Jamaica, NY, proved to be the best of the bunch. George rolled 5 strikes in the final 3 frames to seal the victory and the $500 top prize with a 263 (214 scratch.) Finishing second was Donald Eubanks who earned $340 with a 217 (177 scratch). Rounding out the top 4 was third place finisher Joette Healey, Yonkers, NY ($250) who shot a 202 (153 scratch) and fourth place went to Lenny Tortorice who won $200 with a 184 (155 scratch.)
LIGBT’s next event will be on Sunday, December 19th at AMF Sayville. This will be a 1 squad event featuring a separate scratch and handicap competition. Starting time is 2pm and several specials will be offered including the awarding of LIUSBC Masters entries in the scratch event and Mini-Eliminator entries in the handicap event.
