October 20, 2008-Babylon, NY: The Long Island Generations Bowling Tour (LIGBT), which is presented by Columbia 300, hosted its first event of their ten tournament schedule on Sunday, October 19th and crowned its first two champions. The winner of the scratch event was Jeremy Schaffer of Linderhurst, NY earning $1,000 and the 205 & under champion was Tom Colon of N. Massapequa, NY winning $300. A total of 71 bowlers attended the AMF Babylon event which was hosted by GM Mike Seragano.
The road to the winner’s circle for Jeremy was challenging but he was up to the task. Jeremy, a 25 year old left hander who bowls out of AMF Babylon Lanes, rolled a 1237 five game qualifying series (247 average) to earn one of 7 finals spots. In the finals Jeremy shot games of 256, 297, and 269 to win the tournament and earn the $1,000 top prize. Other bowlers in the final shootout were Jay Marine of Selden (2nd-$500) and Alex Cavagnaro of Lindenhurst (3rd-$360). Alex was the high qualifier in the 49 & under division with a 1284 series and earned 1 bye in the finals. Mike Dioguardo of Patchogue was the high qualifying senior with a 1279 series and also earned one bye. To cash in the scratch division it took an 1160 series in the 49 & under group and 1113 in the senior division.
Tom Colon, the 205 & under champion, earned his spot in the finals by shooting a fine 711 three game series (including handicap) which seeded him second. The top qualifier was Morris Jackson of Massapequa, who rolled a 719 series. Tom, who is a right handed bowler out of Farmingdale Lanes, defeated Morris in the final match 240 (35) to 233 (11) (handicap). It took a 663 series to earn a cashing spot in the 205 & under group.
LIGBT’s first event was a rousing success. Bowlers throughout the tri-state area competed for over $5,000 in prize money. All members received an embroidered shirt and many upgraded their membership to receive a new Columbia 300 Momentum Swing. LIGBT’s next event is at AMF Syosset Lanes on Sunday, November 9
