Deer Park, NY: Yon Gyo Phark, a 54 year old small business owner from Flushing, NY won his first LIGBT title at the club’s inaugural event at Strike 10 Deer Park. Yon Gyo defeated Hector Perez, Whitestone, NY 251-226 to win the $2,000 top prize. While Hector won $1,000 for second, Adam DeRossi, Massapequa Park, NY finished third with a 213 worth $600. Rounding out the top 4 was Chris Werben, Brooklyn, NY, with a 180 worth $400. The incredible prize fund was due to the $1,000 added by tournament sponsor Realty Direct.
The final 4 shootout was actually the third round of a 16 bowler bracket. Yon Gyo was giving everyone handicap as he had the highest average of the 4 bowlers. He bowled consistently all 10 frames as he was the only bowler to throw a clean game. Hector had a 17 pin lead in the 6th frame but when he opened the next 3 frames, and Yon Gyo doubled, the match was basically over. Adam did make a late come back with a double in the 8th and 9th frames but when he failed to throw a strike in the 10th his title hopes were dashed.
The Strike Ten Deer Park tournament drew a great crowd of 153 entries (plus 36 desperado entries), advanced 33 bowlers to the finals, and paid out $8,400.
