JAMES MARINO & RJ BROEGER WIN LIGBT MLK MARATHONS

Levittown, NY:  The LIGBT & Levittown Lanes crowned 2 marathon champions on MLK Sunday night. The handicap champion was James Marino, Lindenhurst, NY shooting a 1391 five game series to win the $1,000 top prize. The scratch marathon champion was RJ Broeger, Ronkonkoma, NY winning $500 with a 1206 series.

The handicap marathon, which attracted 89 entries, was led early by Randy Johnson, Bayport, NY but James finished with scratch games of 246 & 227 to take the victory. Randy finished 53 pins behind James and earned $525 for second. A total of 22 bowlers cashed in the $4,570 handicap prize list that featured a cut score of 1204.   

The scratch marathon, which had 26 entries, was close throughout the night with the winner not determined until the last game. RJ threw a 300 in game number 5 to jump all of the leaders and win by 20 pins with a 1206 five game series. Finishing second was Kevin Key, NYC, with an 1186 worth $300. The scratch prize list paid 6 spots totaling $1,500.

The Levittown Lanes MLK marathon drew a wonderful nighttime crowd of 115 entries and paid out $6,070. Two Brunswick Kingpin balls were raffled and won by Kelli Rivelli and Charles Lovaglio. Darryl Freeman, Forest Hills, NY won the handicap eliminator worth $240 and Curtis Hetmeyer finished second earning $150.

DEON TAITTE WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

Deer Park, NY:  Deon Taitte, a welder and new father from Amityville, NY, won the $2,000 top prize at LIGBT’s Match Play Championship event hosted by Strike 10 Deer Park. Deon’s first LIGBT title was accomplished when he defeated Johnny Kim, Fresh Meadows, NY, 218-213 in the final shootout. While Johnny earned $1,000 for second, Antonino Dilluvio, Flushing, NY took third with a 212 worth $500. Rounding out the top 4 was William Luna, Corona, NY with a 183 worth $250.

The final shootout was low scoring. There were 7 opens by the third frame! The key to Deon’s victory was he only had one open frame the entire match. Going into the final frame Deon had a 10 pin lead. When Deon knocked down 18 pins in the 10th it gave Johnny and Antonino a chance to double to win the title. When neither accomplished the feat Deon won his first title.

The Strike 10 Deer Park event drew a nice post blizzard crowd of 113 entries, advanced 20 bowlers to the finals and paid out $6,150. The cut scores on the PBA Chameleon pattern were low; 675-696. High series of the tournament was shot by James Hellen, with a 768 in the Friday, 10pm squad. The two wildcard winners were Robert Mendez, Brooklyn, NY with a 1346 on Friday and Johnny Kim with a 1323 on Sunday.  

LIGBT’s next tournament is a special Sunday night added event at S. Levittown Lanes. This 5-game marathon will feature a 1 in 4 handicap and scratch prize list and kicks off January 14th at 11pm. BILL VERNI & JONATHAN MCCORD WIN LIGBT MARATHONS

Levittown, NY:  The LIGBT crowned 2 champions on New Year’s Day at Levittown Lanes. The handicap marathon champion was Bill Verni, W. Babylon, NY winning $1,200. The scratch marathon champion was Jonathan McCord, Medford, NY winning $500. A record entry count of 176 entries competed for over $10,000 in prize money.

The handicap marathon, which attracted 142 entries, featured 2 age divisions. The 49 & under group advanced 2 bowlers to the finals; Emmanuel Edobor-Osula, S. Richmond, NY earned the top seed with a 1351 five game series. Devin Flowers, Rosedale, NY was seeded into the semi-final match with a 1326 series. The senior division also advanced 2 bowlers to the finals; Bill Verni with a 1317 series and Alex Padmore, Jamaica, NY with a 1309 series. To cash in the 1 in 4 prize lists the under division cut was 1157 and the senior cut was 1181.

In the handicap semi-final shootout the 3 finalists were within 2 pins of each other going into the final frame. Bill Verni advanced to the final match with a 248 while Devin and Alex tied with 239’s to earn $400 each. The final match was decided early as Bill defeated Emmanuel 283-233 for a 50 pin victory. Bill earned $1,200 and Emmanuel took home $600.

The scratch marathon prize list was determined by the 5-game totals. Jonathan McCord shot a 266 in his 5th game to snatch the $500 title. While Jonathan finished with an 1169 series, finishing second was Dennis McMillan, Jamaica, NY with an 1139 series worth $315. Rounding out the top 4 was Max Thomas, Stamford, CT with an 1122 worth $250 and Pierce Field, Shirley, NY with an 1113 worth $200. The 1 in 4 cashing score for the scratch event was 1094 with minimum prize paying $100.

The Levittown Lanes New Year’s Day marathon drew an incredible crowd of 176 entries and paid out $10,470. Only one 300 game was shot all day and it was by 15 year old Devin Flowers. Two Brunswick balls were raffled and won by Jack Chan and Tom Gull.
