Plainview, NY: Scott Kampf, a 19 year old right-hander from Levittown, NY, won the $1,000 top prize at LIGBT’s sport shot event held at AMF Plainview. Scott’s fourth LIGBT title came at the misfortunes of Dwight Dunkley, Brooklyn, NY, who lost by 1 pin 224-223. While Dwight earned $500 for second, Utrice Coleman, Deer Park, NY took third with a 214 worth $300. Rounding out the top 5 was fourth place finisher Chris Werben, E. Meadow, NY with a 199 worth $275 and fifth went to Sam Cooke, Patchogue, NY with a 192 worth $250.
The final shootout started with Dwight Dunkley dominating the field with a triple and 2 spares in his first 5 frames. But Dwight opened his next 3 frames giving everyone a shot at the title. Meanwhile Scott was the only bowler staying clean and when he doubled in the 7th and 8th frames he was back in the match. It all came down to the final frame, and when Scot threw a spare and strike, it forced Dwight to knock down 18 pins in his 10th frame to win. Dwight made a tough spare but threw a 7 count on his fill ball to lose by one pin in shocking fashion.
