Wantagh, NY: Glenn Simpson, 63 years young from Medford, NY, won his second LIGBT title and this season. Glenn, who already had won the East Islip event in October, took his second LIGBT trophy and the $500 top prize by the slimmest of margins. He defeated second place finisher Jae Yi ($300), Flushing, NY by one pin and third place finisher Julio Arnold, Woodside, ($250) NY by 4 pins. The scores in the final shootout were 244-243-240 which was the closest final match in LIGBT history.
The tournament used Kegel’s “Dead Man Curve” pattern and scoring was on the low side. Glenn was seeded directly into the shootout by leading the first squad with a 728 series. Jae Yi lead the 3pm squad with a 765 which earned him one bye. Julio, who was trying to win his second straight tournament, qualified in the first squad with a 696.
The shootout was exciting as the lead changed almost every frame. Glenn won the title sitting on the bench as Jae Yi needed a double in the 10th but could only throw the first strike. Julio struck out in the tenth to force the other two finalists to stay clean.
