ROMIE CAIACCIO, DARIUS FULLER, & JORDAN OCKIMEY TRIO CHAMPIONS

Wantagh, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran a Trio’s Handicap Challenge at AMF Wantagh. The winning team, with a 4-game total of 2,883 worth $2,250, was Romie Caiaccio, Wantagh, NY, Darius Fuller, Bay Shore, NY and Jordan Ockimey, Amityville, NY. Finishing in 2nd place with a 2,816 total, and earning $1,200, was the team of Joe Composto, Wantagh, NY, Adam Ehrlich, Sayville, NY and Mike Simeone, Lindenhurst, NY.

The Trio’s event was competed on the house shot and the scoring was good all day. Finishing in third place with a 2809 worth $900 was the team of Hermie Hannibal, Brooklyn, NY, Devon Johnson, Brooklyn, NY and Wynford Walters, Brooklyn, NY. Rounding out the top 4 with a 2,790 total, and earning $450, was the team of Wesley Grant, Uniondale, NY, Andrew Mienkiewicz, Dix Hills, NY, and Amir Turnage, Roosevelt, NY.

In addition to the team event, a separate singles competition was offered. The singles champion was Emily Collazo, E. Meadow, NY with a 1056 four-game series worth $600. Finishing in 2nd was Adam Ehrlich with a 1051 series worth $300. Rounding out the top 3 was Jordan Ockimey with a 1022 worth $200. A total of 45 bowlers entered the optional singles which paid out a $1,575 prize fund to the top 9 bowlers. It took a 951 series to cash.

The Trio’s competition drew 24 teams generating a prize fund of $5,100. The side action paid out an additional $5,580 bringing the total payout, including the optional singles event, to $10,680. The cashing score in the team event was 2,769 and in the singles event it took a 951 to cash. There were 2 perfect games shot; Adam Ehrlich in game 1 and Ryan Velders, Wantagh, NY in game 3. Both 300 games were shot on lanes 3 & 4. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was James Vogel Jr.

LIGBT’s next event is a house shot (drop-your-low-game) singles tournament at AMF E. Meadow on Sunday, February 5th (1pm.) This 4-game event features 3 separate prize funds: scratch, handicap 49 & under, and handicap 50+. The LIGBT is sponsored by Storm, Billvee Electric, and CLS Custom Upholsterers and Randi Siegel Law Offices.

DAVID CHU FINALLY WINS HIS FIRST LIGBT TITLE

New Hyde Park, NY:   The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its fifth Sport Shot Series event at Herrill Lanes. David Chu, New York, NY won the $1,000 top prize by defeating 2nd place finisher Ken Bruce, Oceanside, NY 260-249. Kenny earned $600 for his runner-up position. This was Dave’s first title since becoming a member 9 years ago. Finishing in third place was Ryon Lee, Holbrook, NY with a 228 worth $400. Rounding out the top 4 was Pak Wong, New York, NY with a 207 worth $300.

While scoring was low in both qualifying squads, the shootout begin with all 4 bowlers throwing strikes. David threw 6 strikes in his first 7 frames, but when he opened in the 7th frame, Kenny doubled to get within 10 pins of the lead. Both bowlers were on strikes going into the 10th frame, so when David made his spare, Kenny needed a double to claim the title. Ken threw an 8-count giving David his first LIGBT title. Ryon, who was giving everyone pins, couldn’t throw enough strikes and had settle in 3rd place. Pak, a 5-time title holder, started strong but couldn’t carry and finished in 4th place.  

The LIGBT 2-squad sport shot tournament drew 105 entries, paid out $5,475 in prize money, and had 29 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action awarded an additional $5,605 bringing the total event payout to $11,080.  

Scores to cash on the 37 foot “Broadway” pattern were 657 at noon and 656 at 2pm. The wildcard winner, which is the highest 6-game series by a non-finalist, was Charles Ko, Palisades, NJ with a 1,334. High series of the tournament was shot by Tony Scibelli, Williston Park, NY with an 832 in the noon squad. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was Dawn Vening, Mount Vernon, NY.

ANDRE MCDUFFIE WINS MLK BONANZA

E. Meadow, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its 5h event of its 12 tournament House Shot Series at AMF E. Meadow. This was a special event called The MLK Bonanza which featured two 3-game qualifying squads and 3 separate divisions. After 2-rounds elimination finals, and 1-game shootout, the MLK Bonanza Champion was Andre McDuffie, Floral Park, NY earning $1,200.

The final shootout featured two bowlers from each handicap division plus the last remaining scratch bowler to compete in a 5-person one game shootout. Andre started out strong and never looked back. He finished with a 267-handicap game which was 45 pins higher than 2nd place finisher Pak Wong, New York, NY who shot a 222 and earned $650. It was a close match for 2nd place as Pak converted a split in the final frame to jump to second place. Finishing in 3rd was Dave Brunson, Seaford, NY with a 220 worth $350. Rounding out the top 5 were fourth place finisher Mitch Benov, Seaford, NY with a 219 worth $300 and 5th place finisher Phil Macchietto, Mineola, NY with a 190 worth $250.

LIGBT’s House Shot Series Event #5 drew a field of 121 entries, paid out $6,300 in prize money, and had 34 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $5,640 bringing the total day’s payout to $11,940. Scores to cash on the house shot were 708/746 for 49 & under handicap, 715/746 for senior handicap, and 719/708 for scratch. Wildcard winners were Steven Schneider, Islip Terrace, NY (1405) from the scratch division, John Knieriemen Jr., E. Islip, NY (1,442) in the 49 & under handicap division, and Donna Ryan, Smithtown, NY (1429) in the 50+ handicap division.

KELVIN OATS WINS NYD HANDICAP TITLE MAX THOMAS & JOSE PEREZ TIE FOR NYD SCRATCH TITLE

Garden City, NY: The LIGBT, sponsored by Storm, ran its annual New Year’s Day 4-game mini-marathon at AMF Garden City. The handicap champion was 24-year-old Kelvin Oats, New York, NY winning his first LIGBT title worth $1,000.  There was a tie for the scratch title as Max Thomas, N. Babylon, NY and Jose Perez, E. Elmhurst, NY each earned $375. 

The handicap final shootout, where the top two from both age divisions combine for a 1-game shootout, started out fast with all 4 bowlers striking. But the only one that kept throwing strikes was Kelvin. In fact, Kelvin went into the 10th frame looking for a perfect game but a 9-count on his first shot forced him to settle for a 279. Bill Verni, N. Babylon, NY finished strong to jump into second place with a 245 worth $500. Nicholas Cirillo, a 20-year-old right hander from W. Islip, NY, was looking for his first LIGBT title but had to settle for 3rd place with a 234 worth $350.  Calvin Nottingham, Deer Park, NY, the elder statesman of the shootout at 72-years old, started with a string of strikes but left a few 10-pins late and finished in 4th place with a 225 worth $300.

The scratch event created co-champions as Max Thomas and Jose Perez tied with a 984 (246 average) each earning $375. Finishing in 3rd place with a 975 worth $150, was Brandon Hughes, W. Hempstead, NY. A total of 6 bowlers cashed in the scratch prize list which paid out $1,200.

LIGBT’s New Year’s Day tournament drew a field of 132 entries, paid out $4,675 in prize money, and had 23 bowlers go to the cashing window. The side action paid out an additional $4,235 bringing the days total payout to $8,910. Scores to cash on the house shot were 993 in the 49 & under handicap division, 959 in the senior handicap division, and 926 in the scratch event. The winner of the Storm ball raffle was David Cincotta, N. Babylon, NY.  Jose Perez shot the only scratch 300 game of the tournament.
